PS3 version of GTA4 will not do all that well, because the past GTA entries where mostly bought by casual/teen players. PS3 only fills the 'teen' part, and not by a great extent.

Lifetime combined around 5,000,000, with the PS3 at less than 1,500,000.

It'll be funny to bring this thread back after GTAIV launches... Lifetime 5 million?!? I expect it to get that in 5 weeks or less.

What do the Metal Gear, Mortal Kombat, Halo, and Castlevania franchises have to do with this game?  I agree that 20 million is very likely too high but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it does ~12 million lifetime.

I don't want to make the bet because to be honest it would be completely unfair to you. I know it seems like SSBB is getting a lot of buzz (and it is), but GTA is a much bigger franchise. It's like the people that wanted to bet MP3 against Halo 3.

The bet is easy. If anyone really thinks this is possible, they should invest in Take2. The stock is super cheap right now and has been beaten down to crap. If it really does sell 20 million copies, your money will at least triple guaranteed.

Well in the past Take2 has had huge hits in their other GTA games and still had financial difficulties. Hopefully they're being run a lot better now.

I'm not convinced both versions of the game will release at the same time.

Regardless, tt should be much bigger for Xbox 360 with the downloadable content...and cheaper pricing...and bigger user base.

I don't think it can hit 20 million though.  I think that PS3 and/or Xbox 360 will a price cut for GTA IV though, which could help...

Alot depends on other releases as well.

Is this going to release the same month as MGS4 and Little Big Planet?  Same week? 

I'd bet the PS3 version will outsell the 360 version in Others & Japan, but get destroyed by the 360 version in the Americas.

Its an early year release right now too, which doesn't bode well for the USA, although it could at a time when PS3 is at ~4 million in the USA (close to 5 million for North America).  PS3 owners don't seem to rush out to buy games though so a 40%+ attach ration is probably ludacris...

I'd go something like 2.4 million-3.0 million first week sales for Xbox 360, 600k to 900k first week sales for PS3 in the Americas.

WW Lifetime totals:  GTA IV (360) 10 million  GTA IV (PS3) 3.5 million 

I'm betting 20% of 360 owners end up with this game by the time it stops selling, while roughly <15% PS3 owners buy the game out of all who could buy it.

I would guess it would have a slightly larger base on the PS3 percentage wise.  It will difinately sell more numbers on the 360.  All in all maybe 13-15 million.  Certainly not 20 million.  Of course it depends.  If it gets even more contraversy than the past, maybe higher.  I actually wouldn't be surprised if it sold a little less than GTA3 though.
