Forums - Gaming - Metro 2033: This year's most underrated game?

aaaah well maybe a bit underrated, but not that much. No AAA, but a great game no question about that.
Also impressive first game from that studio, especially regarding the extremely low developement costs.

Still playing through this on PC. After upgrading to a 4890 it looks absolutely epic on very high settings. Gameplay is great, I think some reviewers missed the mark.

Can the 4890 run this game when everythings maxed out? When I say run...I mean that it doesn't dip under 30 frames per second. I can do it with the gtx295 but when I kick in nvidia 3D vision I got to lower AA, resolution to 1766x992...

My monitor only does 1680x1050. But yeah, I do get the ocassional dip below 30. If I turned AA down from 16x I'm sure it would be solid though.

on very high DX11 (tessellation on, Depth of field off) 1440x900 I get 28-40fps with the gas mask on and 40-60fps with it off. The gas mask really cuts about 20fps lol but it's still smooth for the most part.

I wouldn't say just a bit underrated, this game has creative elements that I can say without a doubt do not exist in any other game! Not many games are as thoughtful as this, the small combination of tiny details makes this game so immersive. Not an AAA I agree but definitely an A game (A for me ranges from high 70s to mid 80s).

From when you can hear your heart pounding after running, or your air filter mask icing up in the cold destroyed world, every small detail has been thought out before being implemented. I wish I could say they did the same for gameplay but still a small studio with limited time and a completely new engine they made, color me extremely impressed.

@PC owners of the game, I am jealous of you! I wish I could see this game in it's true graphical beauty, perhaps next time I upgrade I'll buy this on PC to give it another run through!

@Salamizer I agree with Disolitude take up a challenge! I hated infinite respawning enemies in CoD it made my veteran playthrough so much harder, but in this game I give it a huge thumbs up for the infinite respawn. No invisible lines you have to cross to stop the respawn, just deal with the respawn itself.

Take a screenshot of your game please! I'd very much like to see the tessellation effects on it.

What card are you running it on? REason why I asked ameratsu is because I heard nightmare stories about ATI cards with this game and benchmarks. But his seem rpetty good...

I will when I get home please note I don't use AA on it lol. My system is kinda CPU and RAM limited ATM. The tessellation effect doesn't make much difference TBH.

an AMAZE HD 5770 1GB it runs pretty well most of the time haven't checked the FPS on a out doors section tho. I do have the latest video driver etc so that could help.

I'm playing an outdoor section now (almost at the library I think).

I'm getting 35-45+ fps in most lighter areas (darker areas are more like 50 fps) with 1680x1050, Very High settings (dx10), AAA, 16xAF, Advanced PhysX disabled according to FRAPS. I have a q6600, p45 mobo, 4gb ram, 4890 1gb. Changing the settings from Very High to just High has very little effect on my framerate for some reason.
