Forums - Sales - Why I dislike Call of Duty

Yo Forum, what's going down. So I'm just going to get straight to the point, I dislike COD. Why, you may ask? Well, for a couple of reasons, and when I mean a couple I mean two, haha.

1. Lack of creativity

2. Same stuff being regurgitated over and over.

I'm not saying that Call of Duty is not a fun IP because it is. Their games are one of the funnest in the industry, but thats just it. They've figured out the winning formula onto selling a ton of games waaaay back last gen and because of that haven't improved since. Sure the graphics are slighter better with every new COD game but is anything else? The gameplay and content is pretty much the same across the board with all the games. I just hate to see a video game that makes an incredible amount of money just regurgitate the same material over and over. It gets kinda annoying. Why can't the developers of COD, whether it be Infinity Ward, Treyarch, or Sledgehammer, actually challenge themselves and create a game that sets the bar higher like Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and Alan Wake?

... We haven't seen the Sledgehammer game yet... which was stated to not even be in the same genre as previous CoD's.

4 ≈ One

1. Lack of creativity

2. Same stuff being regurgitated over and over.

Isn't that the same thing? If so, that's not creative, and it is the same thing regurgitated.

Because most people only like it for the multiplayer. I, a gamer that started with the NES, actually finish the single player first before ever jumping into the multiplayer. The mulitplayer is the only reason people refer to COD as a great game.

I know what you mean about them rehashing the same story/gameplay over and over. They are very guilty of that, I stopped buying their games because of it, until MW1 and 2. Their multiplayer is fantastic though and is the ONLY reason for the astounding success they have had.

So it doesn't really matter if they rehash it over and over, because people don't care about the single player anymore with FPS. It is all about multiplayer.

Fact: Earthbound is the greatest game ever made

::shrug:: Then don't buy it 8)

I'd have to question your post. Pretty much all sequel series rehash a lot of their old material. Are you trying to imply that there is no difference between the different Call of Duty games? I have played all of the CoD games since CoD2, and there is a pretty big difference between the games. It isn't all straight rehash. The biggest leap, obviously, was between CoD3 and MW.

I think what you are really trying to say is that you were disappointed with the lack of progression from MW to MW2. That is definitely a valid point, although many fans of MW2 would disagree with you. I love both MW and MW2, but I am on the sidelines in this argument a little bit because IW has been very lazy in releasing old MW maps in the 2 map packs so far.

I think we will notice some new changes when Black Ops is released. That game looks very promising.

Pretty much all FPS series run the risk of becoming stale when too many sequels are released. I thought Halo 3 and ODST were very insignificant upgrades on Halo 2.

I do think that Activision is oversaturating their CoD product. They should not be releasing more than 1 game a year-- it is just going to spoil the series.

I can see the point to your argument, but I don't that CoD has stalled on creativity and innovation yet.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Then don't play it, just a suggestion.

Infinity Ward actually does innovate.

CoD1: Takes the Quake 3 engine and the Medal of Honor formula and combines them in a new and refreshing way. Sure it wasn't the first WW2 shooter, but it brought so many things to the FPS table.

CoD2: Many gameplay changes (for the worse in my opinion) and graphical enhancements. Squeezes the last little bit of life out of the Quake 3 engine. Multiplayer is refined, though largely unchanged.

CoD4: Other than the setting, many gameplay elements are in tact. The multiplayer however, receives a complete overhaul.

MW2: Refinement of the single-player, and revision of the multiplayer. The lack of dedicated servers is a HUGE step backwards, but everything else is so polished I'll almost be willing to forgive them.

Treyarch doesn't innovate at all. Granted I did like Call of Duty: United Offensive back in the day.
