I agree about Far Cry 2 recieving a lot of backlash. It really is a good game except the travel times are a little extreme at times.

Halo is definitely on the list, as is Crysis and I'll pop Wii Sports and WSR there too.

With respect to Crysis, the it's-only-got-good-graphics-but-crap-gameplay line has been peddled way too much. I've played plenty of 'great' FPS shooters that IMO just aren't as good as it is. As someone said, it was Crytek's second game and it's one of the better FPS shooters available with the industry's best graphics, what more did you want?

It irks me when people lump WS and WSR with the genuine shovelware that exists on the Wii. I can accept that they aren't everyone's cup of tea, personally I would rather play a traditional Nintendo title like Zelda or Metroid. However I can still acknowledge their extraordinary appeal, the fact that they are good for the industry and that they are very well made games with some sublime play mechanics.

Am I alone in thinking that Haze didn't deserve the hate it received?

Granted, it was buggy in places, but the vast majority of the game was a pretty solid FPS, with some very pretty environments.

Pretty much every big game, it just becomes cool to hate them, and it really pisses me off when people just call these games crap, and just exaggerate massively

I totally agree with u. It pisses me off too. But everytime this topic comes up I think of you, because I remember how much you praise and love games like Modern Warfare 1, GTA 4 and Assassin's Creed 1, which are main targets of haters.

Munkeh111 is one of the most positive gamers on the site, he loves his games, and seems to always find what works well, rather than banging on about the minor faults like a seemingly large and vocal group do.

But people will always rail against the big names, because they polerise people. there will always be those who love 'em and hate 'em.

For me, I really didn't like MW2, I just didn't like the game. But my judgement was also clouded by my utter disgust at Activision - i think i'm probably not alone on that.

I admit it, i'm a irrational hater (sometimes).

And yes, sometimes apparently it's 'cool' to dislike things - even some of our more popular members fall into that trap...

What games do you think receive a lot of undeserved negative feedback from the majority of gamers?

Here are my picks:

  • Halo (Despite the fact I'm only a fan of the first Halo)
Only played them at friends houses and never liked it so I can't comment.
  • Final Fantasy (Not a big fan of the series outside of VI, VII, and IV)
I loved 7,8,9. The story and charaters in 10 were brilliant but I didn't the linearity. 12 was a bit better but 13 is to linear and very boring.
  • Call of Duty 4 & Modern Warfare 2 (Despite my disdain towards Modern Warfare 2, the hatred it receives is ridiculous)
Call of duty 4 was good and it had very easy online play. Sadly COD MW2 was just really COD 4 version 2.0 and the single player sucked.
  • Resident Evil 4 & 5
Resident evil 4 was brilliant. RE5 could have been better
  • Gears of War 1 & 2
Only played in friends and didn't like.
  • Crysis & Crysis Warhead
never played
  • Street Fighter IV
I hate 2d fighters
  • Grand Theft Auto IV (Overrated by critics, underrated by the gaming community)
the game was great but it took a big step back from what san andreas was which is the best GTA game ever made. Thats why there was fan backlash
  • Chrono Cross
never even heard of it
  • Far Cry 2
It was a good game but it had a lot of problems

The problems with most of them was they were not the best sequels to game francise we all grew to love. Thats why there was backlash. Take Resident Evil 5. Everyone wanted the series to go back to its survival horror roots because thats what made them love the series. If thats what got people buying the game in the first and they take it away then of course theres going to be some backlash

By backlash, I mean people who don't provide legitimate reasons to why they bash the game. Most people hate these games because they either popular or they just don't get it.

As for GTAIV, it took a few step backwards but it improved in several areas and took a different direction. It offered a more immerssive sandbox enviroment, with a far grittier theme, opposed to the tongue in cheek satire of the previous three games. The shooting was much more refined, so was the mission balance and controls. I wish they brought back the RPG character developtment of San Andreas though. San Andreas is my favorite in the series, IV being the second for offering the best screenplay.

In regards to the above, I have some questions and also comments:

* Halo seems to get fragged due to its popularity and resentment by the PC and the Playstation community that the game helped make Microsoft a competitor in the home console business.  Final Fantasy and a number of others fit into the same way.  I think most of them are like that.

* Grand Theft Auto IV attempted to be more serious and the fans of the series hates that the single-player went in that direction, complete with the micromanagement life stuff by Nico.  The multiplayer probably was where Rockstar expected the mayhem to begin.

* I am not sure what it is with Far Cry 2.  It looks awesome on paper, and I know of how the story unfolds, and I REALLY wanted to try to like it, but man, it left me SERIOUSLY flat.  I don't want to hate it, but it didn't do much to get me interested.

MAG - I don't know what the hell some of you guys are playing but this game is awesome. Also, I can't believe someone said it looked like PS2 game... I'm still waiting for someone to show me a PS2 game that was as detailed as this and can compete with it's scale.
