Forums - Gaming - Do your parents do this when you play a really good looking videogame?

When my friend first got Heavy Rain, his entire family watched him play. Then a few hour's in they ask "How long is this movie?".

My Mom really liked watching Heavy Rain when I played it... but she sometimes watches other stuff I play too, it has nothing to do with graphics... for example she's a huge Suikoden fan, like anyone in my family...

Do any of you have parents that play video game on a regular basis? I have a couple of friends that do.

Currently playing

MLB 09: The Show(PS3)

F1 games on PS2 already had this reaction from people.... but you'll see, next gen you'll say this gen's graphics were crap...
(and finally you'll understand why PC gamers don't run arround like schoolgirls when they see pics of U2 HR or KZ2...)

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

My uncle and cousin were "Wow, video game graphics these days are insane" when I was playing NBA Live 10.

My mother plays PSP. She beat Sims Castaways a long time ago and she always bings that memories back... She had such a great time!! =)

She also enjoys PixelJunk Monsters, Eye of Judgment Legends, Patapon or Loco Roco among others.

OT: The only real comment I can recall from my parents being amazed by some graphics was when my father saw my brother and me play NBA2kXX on PS2. He said something about how well the muscles where represented.

Right now I recall my mother telling us how good looking Dragon Quest VIII was. It reminded her when I was a child and watched Dragon Ball (cell-shading and Akira Toriyama style were the links maybe).

I don't see how anyone watching you play a videogame could mistake it for a movie. I mean you're actually PLAYING it. They don't see you hold the controller and press the buttons? They never notice any health bars, timers, on-screen text, speedometers, aiming reticules, in-game menus or anything else of the sort?

Honestly, people who claim any of their friends/relatives -truly- mistake the game they're playing for a movie are either lying or should take said persons to an eye doctor. o_O'

My mum did the same thing about Fallout 3. She's into Sci-fi movies, so now she'll sit and watch my brother play it as if it was a movie.

She likes it because now she can interact with the movie by shouting "shoot him! he's going to get you!" and the character actual reacts!

Computer games are becoming more similar to movies, and i think that is a good thing. games like Heavy Rain actually let you be a part of the story, in a more original way to traditional 'linear' games.

It's not just the graphics, it's the gameplay aswell (although having freaking sweet graphics also helps)
