Announced at sony e3 2006, final fantasy XIII (along its darker alternative final fantasy versus XIII) was announced as an exclusive for the playstation 3 platform. Assumed to be an AAA title, the game was the most aniticipated final fantasy game.
In 2008, microsoft gave a suprising announcement that final fantasy XIII will make its appearance on the xbox 360 platform. While disappointment of the announcement was apparent, xbox 360 users rejoice that an AAA final fantasy will come to their platform.
December 2009, final fantasy XIII was released. Critical reception was very positive and the game was awared a 39/40. Perceived as an AAA final fantasy in its home country, gamers expect a similar response in the west.
March 2010, final fantasy XIII was released worldwide. Critical reception was not so good (in final fantasy standard) and the game was heavily critised for its extreme linearty and lack of FF aspects that fans grew to love. The game received mainly 8s, with an aggregated score of 80/100. The general consensus was that the game was the least impressive of the series.
After all that I've talked about in this thread, do people care anymore that final fantasy XIII is on two platforms instead of one? Imagine you were at sony's e3 when final fantasy XIII was first announced. If you had the ability to travel to the future and found out that the game isn't as good as it was expected, would you not care anymore for the game multiplatform or not?
