Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Power Line to be shuttered down

Hey kids! remember those things called "Hotlines"? You know a telephone number hosted by a company that gave you some info, tips, a cheap pre-recorded message from a famous person or even sex. Well Nintendo is one of the few companies that still has its "Power Line" but after 16 years is finally disconected.

I could have sworn that we heard this news already, but it looks like the date may have been pushed back. After 16 years, the Nintendo 'Power Line' is going to be shut down.

El Interneto has claimed another victim.

When I was a kid, I wanted to work at the Nintendo Power Line when I grew up. Ironic thing is, I never even called it. I didn't even know it was still running.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

It was still operating?! Didn't they charge like $5 a minute for pretty basic tips?

Ah, I remember writing in to them way, WAY back when; I think I still have some letters dating back about 20 years ago in replies. And I remember when it was a general toll call to reach an actual person, before they made a 900-number. I guess I'm surprised it was still around, but in this day, well...

I used it all the time about 8 years ago

Wow to think that the line was still operational. They obviously will keep their customer service line so I don't see the need for the Power Line wasn't it a Nintendo Power Hotline? I would have thought when Nintendo shut down NP and sold it to Future that the line would have died with it.

The power line is an automated phone line, NOT live help. The live help line was shut down 5 years ago.

Damn, memories.

I used it only once here in Argentina. Called it because I was stuck in on of the last parts of Mario RPG, like 14 years ago or so, lol. I remember I was sick, stayed home playing the game. Amazing.
