i don't think so because the user base of the 360 is much larger than that of the ps3, and in order for it to bear H3 the attach rate for mgs4 would have to be over 80%

Actually the attach rate now would have to be close to 100% of the PS3 userbase to have overall comparative sales as the topic would imply.

I missed the FF comment. FFVII obviously outsold any Halo game. I'm not sure where the poster got that idea.

Anyway, you shouldn't be laughing. You're the one who keeps ignoring that Halo has outsold MGS by pulling up Wikipedia numbers.

C'mon, it's entirely possible to like the PS3 and its games without being a delusional quack. Put away the Kool-aid.

MGS4 will almost certainly be a very good game. But it doesn't have the potential for insane blockbuster status.

As has been pointed out, if you want a PS3 title that could possibly match the madness that is Halo 3, look at GT5. The Gran Turismo franchise has cracked 10 mil more than once, while Metal Gear has only reached half that high, ever.

I was wrong about FF vii. Thats one final fantasy game out of 12 iterations. Only one from 1997 has beaten the halo 2's sales. From 1997! Ten years ago! Its time to let go of their jewel from 1997 and play ball today. Final Fantasy doesnt have the impact today that it did in 1997 as seen in the declining sales of the franchise.

It's typical to disregard Wikipedia based on the fact that pages can be edited, but in general it's more reliable than this place. It's well known that MGS sold almost 7 million on the PSX. Halo sold between 5 and 6 millon, you do the math.
