The MG series were popular games on a dominant console. This time they are going popular games on a poorly performing console.
The Halo series were extremely popular games on a poorly performing console, this time it is an extremely popular game on an averagely performing console.

Halo will outsell MGS4 this time, I have no doubts about it whatsoever. Quite simply Halo 3 is certain to have a far higher attach rate than MGS4.

San Andreas is actually on 20 million now. It's officially the best selling game on PS2 and (I think) the 2nd best selling game of all time. Halo 3 is only at 4 (5?) million.

Regardless of the "installed base" MGS4 will possibly outsell Halo 3. People who really want to play the game will buy the console.

I think it could have the same effect as Halo had on Xbox. Let's face it, Halo was the only decent title on the box when it first came out, it's the same deal with the PS3. It's the first 100% must-have title for the system.

Even though I've never played the MGS series before, this will be the first in the series I will actually buy and most definitely enjoy.

I hope this is a joke tread. The MGS titles had a much larger userbase with the PS1/PS2 than the Halo titles did on the X-box and Halo still has comparative sales. How do you think that MGS4 with a lower PS3 userbase is going to sell on Halo 3's level?

No one doubts that GTA is bigger than Halo! All Xbox owners even agree with it. Even Peter Moore agrees with it! Thats why he got the tatoo of it on his arm just because Sony lost the exclusivity on it. Even Thesimexchange.com has GTA4 destroying Halo 3 on its own console! But its multiplatform, so that advantage is gone. If Sony held onto the exclusivity of it, no one would even question Sony's dominance this generation.

I think that's extremely unlikely. I'm no fan of Halo, I love MGS, but I realize that Halo attach rate is among the highest in the world and will not be easily beat!
Not a single Playstation game in history has 20-25% attach rate, and the consoles high install base warrants million sales alone, regardless of attach rate.
The PS3 does not have this install base, and probably never will. Sadly...
