it has been maxed out long time ago even the most recent xbox 360 exclusives arent running at 720p (alan wake, SC:C) i guess that gives you a hint.

what about Mass Effect 2???

ME2 is not an exclusive :P

I am a proud GRAPHICS WHORE.

Personally i would say the X360 is not "maxed". As others have said you can never max a system graphically. I think it is closer to its limit than say the ps3 though, not a by a huge amount but by a significant enough amount that by the end of this gen there will be no argument from anyone that the ps3 is a more powerful system (although some would argue we are already there).

@leet gamer, i have a gaming pc and crysis, i have played it standard at very high settings and then also with ultra high mods... i honestly don't see what people are raving about, sure in parts it looks fantastic, there is a lot going on, great detail, lots of foliage, huge draw distances, dx10 effects, but put them all together and as a package i would rate killzone 2 a better looking shooter game all the same, especially an unmodded crysis.

Graphic capability has already been maxed out, but the 360 as a whole is not, they can use different techniques on how to utilized the CPU or RAM usage more effectively. Same as the PS3 w/c is far from maxing out still have a lot of improvements and im not talking about just graphics im talking about the console as a whole.

Mass Effect 2 looked great, but I'd say wait till Gears of War 3. Gears of War 2 looked really, really good, and I would say Gears of War 3 will be their best effort to max the system. If anything looks better then Gears of War 3 from a pure graphic perspective I would be surprised.

It's just that simple.

This is something that's been going through my mind a long time now. I keep thinking the 360 is being maxed out only to be surprised by newer games that keep pushing the boundary like Alan Wake and even Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

I know the system's GPU is DirectX 9 based, so there's some limits on the graphics. Yet at the same time, some of these games look about just as good as Crysis, at least on an HDTV with the highest and best possible resolution. The system uses a Tri-Core (3 core) processor that's still worthy today, since many PC games today only require a Dual-Core (2 core) processor. Although I think the biggest limit on the 360 is the amount of RAM, which is only 512 MB. I'm suprised the system can even run the games it does on this small amount of RAM. I know consoles run differently, but even Epic Games said Gears of War 2 was hard to develop because of the low amount of RAM in the system.

This may have been discussed before, and I don't mean to ramble on, but do you guys think the 360 is nearing it's maximum limit, or does it have more untapped power that's waiting for the right developer to unleash it? And if it does have more power inside it, when will you guys think it will reach it's limit

You were impressed by BBC2 on 360 ? I can understand why Alan Wake after seeing it but BBC2 wasnt imo that impressive.

On topic: I cant see a real progress since years. Alan Wake is the first attempt since GeOW2 to push 360s limits.

And to the bold one. Do you say that some of the Xbox360 games look almost as good as Crysis if they are on an HDTV ? With the highest and best possible resolution ? Xbox needs for 99.9% games just an HD Ready TV since the games are almost always 720p or even under that, same goes for PS3.
Have you seen Crysis maxed out on an HDTV ? Its miles away from any Xbox360 game.

Imo we wont see a lot more then we have seen. Xbox is easier to programm for then PS3 so ofcourse it takes less time to use full of its potential. Also PS3 is close to maxed out with Uncharted 2 and GOW3. Next Step on the PS3 will be not as big as the Step between Uncharted and Uncharted 2.

Crysis 2 could imo show off everything what the Xbox360 can do.

This is a bad question to ask as with more time+money, engines/software can always be tweaked to work better and better, so technically it would never be "maxed" out.

It will never be "maxed out".

When do i think we will see it's best looking game though?

if some of you watched the corrine yu interview then you will know the 360 is far from maxing out. not too far but lets say the difference in it maxing out is eqaul to the difference between uncharted and uncharted 2 in the graphical side but on the CPU side its too far let me put it at that. remedy said itself they can get 30% mroe power than what they were with alan wake on the CPU side its all about technique. Developers take the easy route instead of takign a more difficult route and use the multicore threading parrelel programming etc......
I don't know about the PS3 though only time will tell

360 is maxed out already, Halo reach is not much different from Halo 3. Developers on 360 only focus on Xenos which already reached its limit year before.

PS3 although has a slightly weaker GPU RSX, the power of the Cell with its 7 SPU has not been fully improvised (its 7!!!, not 2 not 3), u can expect Uncharted 3 to be way better than Unchatered 2.

However, 360 still can have plenty of innovation from Natal. Graphics is not everything, wait for E3

Thanks for your input non 360 owner. I'm sure you have a lot of first hand experience with Reach as well. No actually you don't and I'm assuming your making your observations by low res videos you have seen on the internet. Reach is miles ahead of Halo 3 in the graphical department and its just the Beta.  Reach actually runs in 720p as well while Halo 3 ran at sub HD. The final game will be one of the best looking on the console. Unless you have played the beta multiple times on an HDTV then don't waste time commenting.
