Even if Sony announces a PSP-2 at E3, the biggest surprise will still be our first look at the Nintendo 3DS.

Why would the biggest surprise of E3, be something we will have known about for months?

I'm curious.

Because we haven't seen it yet. When we finally get the revelation of the thing we are eager to see but can not yet comprehend, it will probably have much more in the way of surprises than the thing that... well... a second PSP.

Its all subjective. I dont give a crap about the 3DS, but I cant wait for the PSP2 to be announced So, for me, and I bet for plenty other people, the announcement of a new PSP will be a far bigger surprise and far more wanted then a preview of the 3DS.

Why should we all be excited for a handheld, just because its made by Nintendo ? :|

I think we can no more comprehend the next DS than we could comprehend the first DS. Remember how we couldn't comprehend the first DS at all? Even when Nintendo announced it and showed it off, they left out the touch screen part, and we were left completely uncomprehending. As for the next PSP... unless they take the Move approach of shamelessly copying the DS... is there really anything they can do that would elicit much excitement?

Your saying that there is still room to innovate and bring new features when it comes to Nintendo handheld but not when it comes to Sony handheld? Thats how it sounds you know. Your also talking like Nintendo invent everything, while im pretty sure dual screen was the only feature not available somewhere else.

"unless they take the Move approach of shamelessly copying the DS" Really?! Its a different tech with a similar concept,  dont you think shamelessly copying is a little exagerated?

Well, the DS was pretty damned innovative, and I think most people are expecting the 3DS to follow that innovative path. Can you really fault someone for expecting more innovation from the Nintendo handheld than the Sony handheld? And I'm not saying Nintendo invented everything, or even anything (I don't think 2 screens is so much an invention as it is a design choice). But there's a huge difference between invention and successful and innovative implementation.

Perhaps I'll be proven quite wrong and the PSP-2 (if it comes) will blow away expectations. But right now I think my expectations seem to be fairly justified.

I agree with your last paragraph, its natural to expect something more based on past experiences. But re-read what I underline from one of your earlier post.

I don't think my underline is contradictory with my later statements. The DS brought forward a large number of innovations and I expect the 3DS to build on that. The PSP sought to innovate by increasing the power to match that of consoles and adding in non gaming features. As nice as some of those features are, that doesn't change gaming. In another thread rumours of the PSP2's stats are being kicked around and the biggest innovation in them are touchscreen (DS) and two cameras (DSi) while those are still probably rumours, it's kind of hard to imagine what Sony would do to build on their PSP that doesn't involve following Nintnedo's lead.

Expecting Sony to follow Nintendo's lead is very much based on past expectations.

"As for the next PSP... unless they take the Move approach of shamelessly copying the DS... is there really anything they can do that would elicit much excitement?"

You were saying its impossible for Sony to be innovative unless they copy nintendo. Which is not the same as expecting more from Nintendo based on your past experiences with them. Basicaly what you said is: if they dont copy Nintendo theres nothing great to expect from them. Its not respectuous of people who like the PSP and/or Sony gaming division, and its hard to have a discussion when people use exagerated opinions like those. You know theres people who likes their PSP here, you know theres people who expect great things from the PSP2 announcement, the way you worded your argument wasnt respectuous and wasnt simply stating you were expecting better things from Nintendo.

Because 3D is not it's main feature.

lol, if it was the biggestsurprise it's no longer because it is no longer a surprise because people now know about it

So it could be announced at E3, but probably won't be, till later in the year.

PS3 Will Be King By 2016.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Sony should just go ahead and turn the thing into a phone. Add some 3G/4G for multiplayer gaming and internet features on the go.
