Forums - Sony - Was God of War 3 not successful?

LBP was at £15 on amazon a few weeks after its launch in UK

was it not successful?

That's a bad example if you're trying to prove a point... People, including myself, expected the game to sell AT LEAST -75 million copies and perhaps even 10 million units or more based on all the hype and marketing alone and the fact that it was a platformer with a metacritic score that was comparable to that of a Mario game. So no, I can't imagine anyone seriously considering LBP a big success given the context of its launch. Had it been some under-advertised indie game or something then sure, it was a huge success...But it wasn't. It wasn't a monumental failure either, but its sales are moderately underwhelming.

It all depends on expectations. If gamestop expected to sell 5 millions, well, they have to sell those copies one way or another.

But the game is successful. It's a great game, it has sold enough copies to guaranteed profit so I don't see why anyone would think it was a unsuccessful title

^Like I said, it's all on the expectations.

The only expectations that matter are the ones from the devs/publishers. What an internet go-er or two thinks has little to no relevance in the grand scheme of things. I could think a game that sells 3-5mill is a flop because I "expected" it to sell 6-8mill. What would it matter?

And I agree 101%

no it sold more than expected they probably already made a profit so have therefore reduced the cost for everyone else, it has taken since january to get a WKC price cut (and i don't know if it's permanent;))

Having an overstocked issue the reason for a price drop at GameStop is likely. Given they generally have a robust selection of new and used games.

But to say they lowered the price because they already made a profit of the game and are now passing that on to the consumers......I think not.

lol normally a price of a game drops when it sells more than 2 million go figure, but it could be just a temporary sale like as you said due to having too much stock, but GOW 3 is a huge success and was one of the quickest sellers on PS3, anyone else who wants to call it a failure should leave this site:(:( (not having a go at you)

A temporary sale on the game is likely and I'm not saying it wasn't successful.

I never said that. I won't say that.

I have said many times before, LBP probably made the most pure profit for SONY/its devs out of all the exclusive PS3 games released thus far, barring GT5 Prologue

It was a typo. I meant 5-7 million, at least, and possibly 10 million or more. I think that was a reasonable expectation given the circumstances of the game that it has failed to live up to.

It doesn't mean it's unsuccessful.

I bought Modern Warfare 2 in the first week at the price of $79 AU at Kmart where everyone else would sell it for $119 AU. Yeh that's how frickin expensive games are here at AUS...

LBP sales underwhelming? Um what?

Half this site was against the game selling any better than Ratchet and clank on PS3, our analysts here claimed that the demographic wasn't there for the game to sell more than 2 million copies (if it gets lucky).

I expected 3 million LTD, but not the sales its getting now, the game should eventually pass 4 million before LBP2.
