LBP is a sandbox game while SMG is a platformer. No fair comparison here.

Also, if you make a thread like this, there will be two sides: Nintendo fans love Mario, Sony fans love LittleBigPlanet. It's obvious in general.

Both games are fantastic, but my vote goes to LittleBigPlanet because after I beat SMG, I had no will to play it anymore, but I LBP is in my console right now because I love it so much.

I feel like these two games in different genres

Super Mario Galaxy, the platforming in LBP wasn't accurate enough

lbp platforming it's physics based :p, all objects react to what you do, it's actually better.

No, it's actually worse.

See how not putting "imho" makes me sound like an arsehole?

He didn't say "physics based" he said "accurate enough" and the floaty ass jump physics in LBP make me pissed off and I'm far from the first fan of the game to proclaim that. If you've never heard the billions of threads lamenting the jump physics in LBP either you've never been to gamefaqs, or you're just haven't talked to anyone in the games community lately.

Also, you must have never read a review of SMG(or never played the game in a close enough time frame to compare it to LBP or any other platformer for that matter), because nearly everyone praises the solid jump mechanics as the current high-water mark of the genre, a praise which seems to have followed SMG2, if early reviews are any indication.

That said "worse" is an opinion, as is "better" but if you prefer "floaty" to "solid," then you still end up with a worse platformer in LBP imho, but that's neither here nor there. There is also a lot more depth and variety in the jump mechanics in SMG, imho.

Again, LBP has strenghts, but they are not neccessarily found in its gameplay mechanics.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The difference being, EVERYONE should love SMG, not just Nintendo fans, and thus, I predict it to win. However, I've predicted wrong in the past, so who knows. :P

NO NO, NO NO NO.

....might as well ask people which console they own...apples and oranges.....that said, as a former Wii owner and current PS3 enthusiast, I'll say this:

Seeing as how SMG is the best traditional platformer ever made, and LBP is a mediocre platformer that gets by on its innovation, artstyle, and level editor, I would say SMG by a long country mile, and IMO, LBP doesn't touch any real Mario game ever released in quality of platforming, the difference there is a vast gulf.

LBP has its strengths, but solid platforming is not one of them. The jumping is far too floaty.

While I do believe SMG has better platforming, I believe he was talking about the games as a whole package.

Not sure if that's how you were answering is all.

I've tried playing through Little Big Planet on several different occasions and can never stay interested in this bore-fest longer than a level or two!! Mario Galaxy is just pure fun, not really a fair fight here!!

This might be irrelivant, but it's a little shocking, so I thought it would be interesting to share here.

I was just surfing metacritic and this thread made me pull up Galaxy. It has 73 reviews so far....

...and not one of them is below 90 percent.....damn.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

SMG is the much better game, LBP just can't stack up to it.

I am not sure how they are even comparable.

This.

- Wasteland - The Mission.

LBP's only real advantage in this matchup is its excellent level editor. Sure, it's art style is very nice as well, but not on par with Galaxy's incredible use of colour, shapes, and composition.

As a platformer, LBP is let down by horribly floaty jumping physics.
By contrast, Galaxy's platforming is bolstered by near-perfect controls and physics.

Galaxy also holds the upper hand aurally with one of the greatest scores in gaming history.

LBP is not a bad game, but it's not in the same league as Mario Galaxy.

As other have already said, NSMBWii would be a better match-up to LBP; at least they share a genre.
