Music... but because of "orchestrated everything" its harder and harder for someone to compose the next Mario Theme. Songs must be simple to be catchy.

Catchy and simple music is made to please the inexperienced ear, I must say I prefer music with a lot of resources in a game which adds to atmosphere, if musicians cant make a good orchestrated composition for a game it means they arent talented enough or lack education. For me, better music is better for a game.

And I cant answer the question in the OP, both are important to me, I enjoy music more but I cant play without video.

Nooooo, please don't bring the "hardcore vs. casual" baloney to music!  If you're gonna go down that road, you better not enjoy any songs in 4/4, because that's the simple casual time signature for the inexperienced ear.

Not all games even have music. Not all games need music.

But just like nearly all movies since the '80s, most modern games have too much music. They're afraid of silence.

WTF why are so many people saying music?

Graphics by a mile. Music can suck my nuts.

Music is fantastic and timeless, graphics are not. Get a grip.

A good soundtrack is certainly nice to have, but if the game is so ugly (graphically) you can't even stand to look at it then there will be problems.

If you do not have graphics, you do not have a game.
graphics is one the of most importent apsect of gaming.

I just think its getting common to dislike anything that has harmonies in it and doesnt rely on catchyness, nothing to do with harcore/ casual, I just think there is a rejection of "epic"/orchestrated music just becasue some people associate it with gaming going movie style.

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

Music lasts forever.
Graphics lasts a month.

Its like asking would you rather be blind or be deaf.

So does this mean that many people here would refuse to play an SNES game because of the graphics?

Music wins this by a long shot.

Great music lives on longer than graphics.
