For certain values of "true", anyway. Nintendo's not that big on Achievements or pay-to-play, on the whole. Sadly the tutorial bit hits closer to home, though it is exaggerated considerably there. The follow-up comic to it was even less likely, featuring all sorts of stuff you'd expect from games on the HD Twins (like long installs, downloading huge update patches because the developers released an incomplete beta as the final product, and so forth).
