Forums - PC - Electronic Arts abandoning PC gamers?

Didn't EA just announce a few months ago they were shifting towards MMOs or something? Or was that someone else . . .

True, but what I think the TC is trying to say (well not trying he is just saying it) is that 2010 World Cup might be an experiment. And if the results are positive then FIFA 2012 might be console exclusive.

Fine by me. FIFA on the PC's been crap for years, just rehashed PS2 engine versions. If they can't be bothered, then I don't see why anybody else should give a toss. As usual, if there's a market for it then someone else will step in and fill the gap.

As for the thread's title- maybe in an isolated case; across the board, no.

Maybe they are going to reset the series on pc as they did on console few years ago?
IIRC fifa pc is utter garbage with more in common to ps2 version than ps3/x360.

Also they get something like 30-40 % of sales for Bioware games on pc.

This is EA we are talking about here. They put every title they have on every platform they can.

There ebst selling franchise (the sims) sells the vast majority of its games on the pc platform. They wont completely abandon the platform.

Didn't they just announce Dead Space 2 for PC as well (It wasn't announced before)

I played the PC demo of FIFA 2010 last week and deleted it after about half an hour. It's like taking a step back to 2006 when FIFA games still sucked. I've played 2008 and 2009 heaps on the PS3 and loved them so I was so disappointed that I couldn't get the same experience on my shiny new PC.

EA Sports are done with PC (for a while actually)

Even Fifa 10 is basically Fifa 07 with a few twists. (using the same Fifa 2004 engine)

funny i found fifa 10 on consoles to be a huge step back. My best in the series is fifa 09. I didn't buy 10 nad not going to buy world cup or 11 until they improve on fifa 09 or get something better than fifa 09

I just noticed that there will be no PC version of EA's Fifa World Cup 2010 soccer game. From my knowledge this is the first time a Fifa game has skipped the PC platform. Could this be EA being fattup with PC piracy and experimenting how sales on the other platforms will be impacted by this? In logic EA might be trying to force people who want the game but normally pirate it for PC, to buy it on a console.

Even considering the much larger install base first week sales seem to be up from previous installments of Fifa championship games.

I think this will be a close one to watch!

EA Sports games were ports of the PS2 versions :\ It didn't give them any money, so it's not surprising that they cancelled.

But it's laughable for anyone to think EA is abandoning PC. The truth is, EA is actually abandoning consoles, not PC!!

EA has shifted a lot of it's business to digital distribution and subscriptions! That is why they're on PC stronger than ever! They did a lot of things to directly support PC recently:

  1. They made a new deal with Microsoft just to allow Mass Effect 2 on PC same time as the X360 version.
  2. They bought Playfish, a social games developer, for $275 Million.
  3. Bad Company 2 and Dragon Age are selling much more on PC.
  4. Publishing deals with respected PC developers in Valve and Crytek, and upcoming APB game.
  5. Shift of business to digital distribution, where PC is king.
