Forget it...I don't like things that are optional.

....are you kidding?

I think disolitude may have the same feeling as me about this.

The fact it is optional means that there won't be any gameplay mechanics or overall game design based on the 3D feature because people may want to turn it off. Worst than that, it means that games instead of being made with the 3D effect from the ground up, will be 2D stuff then adapted to 3D, resulting on poor depth or awkward 3D. In the worst case scenario, there might games not supporting the 3D at all, since it is optional.

That's a kind of throwback for me as also.

I hope that there's another detail to make it worth purchasing then. But being it named 3DS, it makes sense that the main buzz about it is the 3D.

that is, unless, game devs make it a requirement to have 3D on to play their games rather than making it optional, depends on the game maker.

While people may disagree with me, I suspect that the 3DS will probably be more powerful than the Gamecube was in order to ensure that Nintendo can port Gamecube games while supporting stereoscopic 3D.

With that said, I don’t see how allowing players to turn off 3D output would translate into developers not supporting it as a feature. Most likely Nintendo will develop the 3DS so that the "driver" for the graphics system will handle the displaying of graphics in 3D as long as they were rendered in 3D. This works out so that most of the games would not see any benefit from not supporting 3D (performance can be identical because it could force rendering both views regardless of whether you are displaying in 3D or not); and the enabling/disabling of the feature can be handled in a uniform way across all games.

3DS will not have NGC graphics. We might be lucky that it have PSP graphics. Remember the DS wasn't succesful because of it's graphics, but because it offered a new experience for cheap. If Nintendo listens to you guys then it's going to be the same experience with better graphics. hey were did that get the NGC? bottom of the barrel.

Nintendo will seek to provide a new game experience at a cheap cost that they feel reasonable. I say the 3DS will be a bit under the PSP. Why do I say that.

Ram is expensive, escpecially portable ram.
Media storage space. Even if the 3DS uses the 512mb DS cart in development it still can't compete with the UMD size.
CPU. 3DS won't have as a good CPU. It will hopefully have a better than DSi. Though keep in mind that the NDS has 2d/3d mathematic cores. So a little CPu goes ALOOOOOONG way.
GPU Ram limits the texture size.
Resolution. Fortunately the 3DS will have parallel GPU so there is no extra over head on a single GPU.

These all play important roles to graphical prowess. the 3DS will NOT have
More than 486 PowerPC CPU.
More than 64bit FPU
More than 86MB ram distributed over various components.

It will have
1 Arm 9 likely to be more than 133(DSi) and 1 ARM 7 to handle communications
It will have 2 graphical cores, but they will be in parrallel to achieve 3d rather than increas gfx
-- we wil be lucky if Nintnedo drops the 500 poly count limit on the Graphics core
16MB Ram equal to DSi
DSCart limit will probably be 512mb

In comparison the PSP has
CPU capable of 333mhz
GPU?
36MB ram
1.8gb game capacity

So what people are assuming here is that the 3DS is going to double the specifications of the PSP so that the 3dS will have NGC graphics?

*note: Please keep in mind that the architect of the NDS is fantastic. It's highly divided processing architecture simulates multi core parallel processing extremely well. Due to it's design don't be surprised that just a little increase to the RAM or include of a TEV could pull off near PSP level graphics without requiring the same raw power.

As an example of what I think to be a poor game. This is done on standard NDS hardware. Impressive technical achievement in comparison to some other games in regards to design. Artistic style not judged and some polishing is needed.

So yeah, the DSi at double the NDS could do twice better than of the above game. If the 3DS has any more improvements then they could be comparable to the PSP, but we will not see Game Cube Graphics.

Sorry to burst your bubbles. Instead expect the kind experience that you haven't gotten before. I for one would love to see MH on the 3DS. Who knows if it's capable we might? I would love to see cross comunications between PSP and 3DS

I'm surprised that you know more than Nintendo and the whole world about the 3DS specs. Seriously, are you kidding or you just trying to say that Nintendo is cheap and that they will never produce great visuals. So then what was the jump from GBA to DS? The jump from NES to SNES? The jump from N64 to better graphics than PS2?

Or he is just trying to sound smart ...

And trust me he failed ^^

I dont think that its gonna be THAT optional , cuz i think nintendo will come up with some amazing 3d gameplay concepts , and well if turn it off, there will be no gameplay , what i think that this 3D turn off/on means is that depending of what are you doing , you cant turn it off, or depending of the moment of game or into the menus... well to keep it short , i think that this has more to with the tech aspects of the screen itself more than about the actual games.

Well duh.. how would I otherwise play my old DS games...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

So basically it's like the DS touch screen being optional? Or Wii motion controls being optional?

WHODATHUNKIT?

Great news, its good to see that companies are aware that not everyone gets turned on by 3D. Thats right Hollywood I'm looking at you!
