5.0/10 - Good God, what happened Kojima?

Story - full of plotholes, contradictions and pretty much every plot twist involved nanomachines. Why is Vamp the way he is? Nanomachines. Dialogue suffered from repetition thus making a lot of the cutscenes too drawn out: Person A says something and Person B repeats what person A said. Also the story/dialogue was pretty cheesy. I know MGS games had some cheesy moments, but MGS4 took it to the next level.

"You were the lightning in that rain, you can still shine through the darkness."

Let's not forget Otacon crying over a one-night stand. It was so hilarious, and I didn't buy the romance between the two. Oh and watching Meryl & Akiba fight off the frogs in the last chapter was classic Hollywood stuff. Speaking of Akiba...

Akiba - It boggles my mind that he was brought in as one of the main characters; he's a comedic relief for the series. Anyways, he ended up being annoying, and every scene he was involved in made me roll my eyes. I just couldn't take Akiba serious.

Zero - I don't why they brought him. Watching Big Boss cut off the oxygen tank on this 100 year old man was pretty awkward. This was more ridiculous than Dante sewing a cross across his chest in Dante's Inferno.

Drebin Points - made the game very easy and didn't compel you to conserve ammo. Ran out of ammo during a boss fight? No problem! Just buy some by pressing start. You can also purchase stealth camo and infinite ammo. What a joke.

Beauty & The Beast Corps - suffered from poor character development. You knew nothing about them before fighting them, and they weren't involved in the story. You got to know backstory of the B&B Corps after defeating which was basically too late. I skipped the backstory of the last two because they were already dead. Who cares, let's move on.

Weak codec support - this was a huge disappointment for me. MGS1 had a fantastic supporting cast, MGS2 had a lot of funny codec moments, as well as MGS3, but MGS4 had nothing. There were two people on support, and there were very little to none interesting codec conversations.

A.I. - awful. I stood in front of the enemies, and they couldn't detect me. WTF? Getting around places was pretty easy.

Cutscene to gameplay ratio - nine hours of cutscenes with only four hours of gameplay. Kojima, take note from Uncharted 2: that's how you tell a story. What pissed me off what that there were many cutscenes that made me think, "wow, I wish I could play that scene." Some notable scenes are Raiden v Vamp, Snake encountering the first Gecko, etc. I wish there were more gameplay; I don't mind long cutscenes as long as the story isn't terrible. Unfortunately, MGS4 was atrocious and felt too drawn out with its repetitive dialogue.

I did like the gameplay minus the Drebin points. Rex v Ray and the final boss were solid. The final fight brought so many memories; quite possibly the best way to end it. Visuals & music were excellent as well. Everything else was a failure.

Try playing in a harder difficulty level next time.

Great game, crappy story AND crappy storytelling full of cringeworthy moments: akiba, Drebin's monkey, the hamhanded way the B&B's story is told, Otacon & Naomi's awful love story, Meryl and Akiba's even worse one, the whole premise of the war economy (makes as much sense as saying "the marketing economy"), the "real" cause of big mama's death...

I enjoyed it much more on my second and subsequent playthroughs when I didn't bother watching the cutscenes.

why so many bad ratings?...i think i saw more good reviews for 2 than for 4...shame...

9/10...my 3rd favorite title in the series...but still one of my favorite games of all time like every main MGS even with 2 :D

5 stars (10/10)

A monumental achievement in storytelling and realtime cinematography and a trully grand finale to the MGS saga.

Lucky you, you took the bait.

I edit the picture out because it send the wrong message.

I'd like to further add my point of view of said post and yours. This isn't the place to rant about a game or give a mini review. For you, since you comment utter nonsense about my reading skills, this is for you. yes I understand his post. But, get to the point, everyone has likes and dislikes and opinions is irrelevant, and I personaly don't want to read them all. Stop trolling me.

MGS4: 9/10

If i'd based it on the first 2 levels then it'd be a 10. I loved the streamlined gameplay, and whilst the story itself was a mass convoluted web, it was told in an emotional way that made me want to keep playing. The later levels reduced the new stealth gameplay mechanic but kept it varied enough to make me keep playing.

Some defining moments of this final MGS were in Act 3. The final scene here had a full blown MGS drama present, lots of orchestraic music, emotion, guns, evil laughing & so on present. The final scene of Act 4 was similar.

However I am sure many would agree the single best scene in this saga's final game was definetely the microwave corridor scene. Here we are required to tap the triangle button to keep snake moving slowly while being piered by microwave lasers. On a side screen we see the battle taking place at sea. The music here, wrapped with voice overs & the desperation of the situation made it a true marvel of a scene, the best in the whole MGS franchise & maybe in all of gaming!

OVERALL:

MGS4 is a path breaking venture. For me being a huge MGS fan it just about gave me everything I wanted. It gave me an end to one of gaming's greatest individual, I will not say hero as snake himself prefers not to call himself that. The game provided a huge reason to get the PS3 & it fulfilled every expectation i had. Its the only game I can give a 10/10 as its the only one that I believe deserves this score.

For me this game is the best ever.

Yes it is. He is asked to rate the game so it seems quite proper to me to say why it is rated such.

You are the one who indicated trouble with his text as well as trouble with understanding the concept of a wall of text (if that guy's text was a wall it would be crumbling) but I sure hope that your real reading skills are better than what you displayed here.

His opinion is relevant to the rate he gave to the game and nobody forced you to read it, you could have just ignored it.

I wasn't trolling you but given that you said it was a bait it seems like you admit that you were the one trolling, or at least flamebaiting.
