I'm not sure what games you want to run, but my old 8800 gs (9600 gso) ran Mass Effect 2 very well on high settings. I now have a 4890 which is just amazing though. ATi ftw.

Anyways, all I wanted to say is that the cards in that tigerdirect link are horribly overpriced and not that good. People here will provide you with excellent advice.

The 700 you spent on the system was not for the gfx card, it was for everything that is in the system.
If you bought it from a place like BB, you are always going to get screwed up the arse if you want a machine that can play games. That is what ZipZoomFly, NewEgg, and the like are for.
If can't build your own system, then go to a small mom&pop shop that builds PC's and they will let you design one.
From what you have listed though, the 700 bucks were not that bad. You did have only a $70 video card in it, but the rest of the system is pretty reasonable. Most of what you paid for was brand name though.

If you tell me your budget, I can tell you what the best card to get is.

It will help a lot if you give us a list of the key components in your system though.

Well, maybe it's no harm cos the only bad part is the GPU. U should actually consider a $200 GPU to go with that since your other parts are good.

Try lowering the clocks on your GPUs back to stock to see if the problem goes away.

I would go with the ATI 5770 if possible. Very good card but goes for around $150

Why did you get one of the new Nvidia cards? Price/Performance goes to ATI hands down this gen. Anyone with any real knowledge in Video Cards will tell you the same thing

ya ati hd 5970 is a dual gpu card for almost the same price of what you paid for your gtx 470, and the ati 5970 is almost double the power.

the nvidia gtx 470 does beat out the 5870 but just barely but the 5970 completely destroys the 470

I hate ATI. Period. I dont care if the ATI card was 100000 times stronger, ill buy Nvidia.
