Forums - Sony Discussion - PLAYSTATION MOVE issue?

I'll stop thinking of Move (god, I love that name) as only a Nintendo Copy when Sony actually does something with it that ISN'T copying Nintendo.

There's a lot of potential here. Let's just hope there are some people at Sony smart enough to exploit it.

It's not the idea that was copied, it's the implementation.  Sony's move is a "me too" product and nothing more.

while i respect your Opinion on the matter it's not a "Mii too" product!

once again just because one company release their technology first does not mean they are the only one's with that same IDEA.

Not to mention trying to convince some of the people in charge in a company when you do not get to make the decisions, sometime's hinder's said progress and sometime's it takes the success of another company to get the higher up's to see thing's differently.

just imagine you spent all that money and development on a product and less than 20% of your user base purchases the device.

when the next system releases the price is already at $500.00 or $600.00 and you would have to increase that price further just to release Motion control's. or you could wait until the other system  well or poorly it does and go from there.

your core system get's lower in price and the other system has a control system close too your own  type of system that was already in development. cheaper to wait. is something I would think they agreed on.

I didn't say it was a unique idea.  This idea has been floating around forever.  It's not even unique to these companies.  It's implementation into the market is what makes it a "me too" product.  They would have never released Move (especially not in it's current form) without the Wiimote.  After years of mocking motion controls they are now trying to get a piece of the Wii pie.  Waiting to see how your competitor performs and then adding what is making them successful to your system is exactly what makes it a "me too" product.

They are playing following the leader.  I feel that is obvious.

"It's implementation into the market is what makes it a "me too" product."

that's like saying every automobile is a copy of every other automobile is a Mii Too product...

"Waiting to see how your competitor performs and then adding what is making them successful to your system is exactly what makes it a "me too" product. "

if that's a Mii Too product there is quite a bit of Mii Too product's out there than..lol

yea my PC has a dvd burner and HP releases a DVD burner for their PC's that make's their PC a Mii Too huh..

I have one single question for you.

If Sony was planning the PS Move since 2004 why this statement form themselves?

"I think the notion of that controller is a non-trivial point that you’ve brought up, that control and that familiarity is like comfort food - from my perspective, we lead, we don’t follow. And as a brand, Nintendo’s got their thing, and we’re not trying to get the senior citizen group to get into gaming"

", but we’d never consider iterating off of existing competitive technology - because we think that’s a fad and that’s not the way we approach product development. It’s not the way we approach the marketing or the branding of PlayStation."

I'd really like someone to explain this. A company that "is creating" a motion sensing pad trolling themselves? ;)

Ups ;)

LoL.

I wonder the amount of Spin Skill one needs to justify this.

Still waiting for a response ;)

ok spin this:

Inventors: Shimizu; Takao (Kyoto, JP); Suzuki; Toshiaki (Kyoto, JP)
Assignee: Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Kyoto, JP)
Appl. No.: 440111
Filed: May 19, 2003

BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Japanese Patent Laid-Open Publication No. 2001-170358 discloses a game system (hereinafter, referred to as "a conventional technique") using a tilt sensor. In this conventional technique, when a handheld game device or a game controller (hereinafter, referred to as "a game device, etc." in place of "a handheld game device or a game controller") is tilted, a game image is generated in which an object such as a player character, etc., moves (rolls over) in the direction of tilt, thereby allowing a player to feel as if a game space is actually tilted in accordance with a tilt of the game device, etc.

The above described conventional technique, however, is used for controlling a two-dimensional game image, and cannot be adapted to a three-dimensional game image which has become prevalent as a game image.

that's nintendo's patent!

look up Sony's and you will see there is no spin, claim all you want Sony did not copy nor did Nintendo Copy Sony they were both working on the same IDEA for Motion controll's, since the DEVELOPMENT OF THE Nintendo Wii mote was being development since the Game cube why was it not released for the Game cube also?

it's simple

it also was not ready yet.

I don't need to spin anything. Just tell me why that Sony comment bashing motion control while they "had" a motion control in the works lol. Epic lol.

because one PR company never bashes any other company for no reason right?

god it just seem's when PR gets posted some of the people hate on one company PR and only blame that company for Bad PR when they all do it. but it seem's only one company is more at fault over it than other's just like Some like to spout off some "fan's" of a game console are worse than other "game console fan's".

their PR. that's what PR. is paid to do.

just because they bashed Motion control's does not mean they do not have one of their own , or that other companies did not feel that way about motion control's. it just mean's their trying to put doubt about a product in the Mind's of the consumer's it's like the mud slinging in political campaign's.

they all do it.

I'll say what you perfectly know my friend:

Baaaaack in 2007, the Wii was a fad. A joke. LOL. An underdog system that would sell greatly just for one year (acording to Michael Pachter, Microsoft and Sony) and then all of us would jump aboard the all mighty, CELL powered PS3, which costed 600$.

So Sony just bashed Wiimote, because they were not going that route, who's gonna copy the fad? The "Kiddy" system?

Back in 2008, Nintendo is still butt rapping Sony in hardware and software sales, and maybe in mid 2008 was probably when they started working on PS Move, implementing old technology they may have patented for Eye toy, because the "kiddy" system was set to be the market leader for this gen. Motion controls were what defines a new gen system, not graphics, and Sony was aware of that.

So , in E3 2009, one year later, they show off a wiimote rip off, that resembles a sex toy for many people on the internets, and has amazingly great accuracy for a beta build of the device - something equivalent to wii motion plus.

In this time, they're yet to make a nunchuk rip off, because they believe that holding a PS3 controller alongside a wand would please gamers, as shown in a RE5 Special Demo for the PS Move. But thing is, it didn't please no one. They needed to copy the nunchuk too.

It was recently, that Sony finally unveiled the full set. A nice Wiimote and Nunchuk imitation, using some nice Sony tech they already had from Eye Toy development, it works the same as the Wiimote but using different method. Pretty clever.

Now, the world is still to know if Sony's Nunchuk will have motion sensors or not, because it is a rushed peripheral, yet in development, not a project from 2005.

This, is pretty much what happened :)

it already does in even some of their pre beta software something the Wii cannot do. just because the camera allows the Move to do thing's the Wii cannot due to the Wii does not have a camera. but the Wii may be able to do it with a camera of their own. we will have to see.

I thought it was retarded. It severely disadvantaged the N64 to to the PS1. It made Nintendo lose a lot of great franchises such as Final Fantasy.

As for this topic, I think the Move hate still exists because of Sony being hypocritical and constantly calling the Wii a fad in the past and also basing the design of Move and Navigation off the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. I think people want Sony to admit that they wrong before they stop hating.

sony kind of deserves the hate they´ve gotten cause they bashed the wii so much in the past treating it like a fad.

"I think the notion of that controller is a non-trivial point that you’ve brought up, that control and that familiarity is like comfort food - from my perspective, we lead, we don’t follow. and now they make move.
hypocrites :p

i think that sony has lost the casual gamers this gen, them and ms are making move and natal to appear to a diffrent crowd.

move did copy nintendo so why do people care about move and why should their be hype. well considering the ps3 is a system which is for a diffrent type of gamers, il wonder how they will use move, already games such as re5 heavy rain and socom 4 have or will have compateibility with move. mario games dont make much use of the wii mote( it is not used but the game doesnt depend on it). i would be really interested to see oblivion with move.

natal and move are a step into the future for both companies. since games and hardware has become so expensive i think that the next console from either ms or sony will come in a long time.

and that is why ps3 is getting a 3d update, and one of the main reasons for the apperence of natal and move, to prolonge the life time of the consoles. i'm sure that sony and ms will release their next gen console 2-3 years after nintendo releases their, considering they are technologically more advanced then the wii they can still compete and with new ip's coming up they can hold on.

that will cause for the launch price of the next ps and xbox to smaller then a launch price it wold have had with an earlier release by 2-3 years. selling more consoles and potentially making the gap beetween 2nd and 1st smaller

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

but on the same token they all do. but some gamer's only single out one company. and call them worse than the other's.

just because some PR spout's off something mean's pretty much just someone at the company get's asked a question by the Media to elicit a negative response because it creates drama an more hit's to their web site.

many people on the street would most likely never even seen that statement in printed new's and where was it released?

that's right online.

so PR is PR that's what their paid to do. you can expect something like this from all the companies. not just Sony!

you can think what you want but no proof will change your mind you have already made up your mind.

What I said is proof. Since the SNES times Sony has been copying Nintendo controllers, this is no surprise.

I don't know if you haven't noticed yet, but only you and another couple guys keep bragging about it not being a wiimote rip off. Serisouly dude, it only makes you a more serious person just to get over and admit it, like many Sony fans already did.

Does that fact stops you from enjoying such a device? Hell no, despite coming 4 years later, I think it will be an awesome experience for whoever hasn't yet had a Wii. Even for Wii owners, there may be something to look at, some epic game for it that differs a lot from what the Wii has served.

Seriously, your debating skills are awesome, you're only a die hard Sony fan.

You make me remember those Nintendo fans (very few) that keep saying the Wii's online is awesome and they don't need something like Live, while everybody knows that an online service on the Wii like Xbox Live would be a dream. (If free, but this is already my own opinion)
