My suggestion is to buy Metroid Prime Trilogy if you haven't tried it before, than also Monster Hunter 3 and Mario Galaxy of course.

If you get all 3 Mario games (Galaxy 1 and 2, NSMB) you´ll already have your hands full for some time....other games I´d personally consider must haves are Mario Kart, Smash Bros and the MP trilogy if you haven´t played MP 1 and 2 before....as for MH3, you might wanna try it before a purchase.

Buy Metroid Prime Trilogy, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Monsther Hunter Tri, New Super Mario Bros Wii.

Then, wait for Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M and Zelda, all of them are considered to be released this year.

DavidValbu pretty much listed the solid games you should own first, Metroid priem trilogy will consumer you for a long time at least 80 hours if it's your first time playing and monster hunter tri is another game that will eat you. I agree with Christian973 too.
