Forums - Gaming - Capcom DLCs

So I just bought the SF4 Costume Pack when I looked at the download I saw that it was only several KBs worth.  What gives?  Does this mean that the "new content" I just downloaded was already in the disc all along?  I just paid Capcom to allow me to use costumes that are already there.  Back before DLCs became popular content like these used to just be unlockable via finishing the game story.  Now they're requiring us to pay for something that's already there all that's being downloaded is the unlock code.  It's crap like this that makes me wish someone could come up with a way to unlock "extra content" that's already there in the first place, for free. That will teach those greedy executives at Capcom.

All this feels wrong, an analogy would be something like paying Sony extra bucks so that you can be able to watch BluRay movies on the PS3.  The functionality is already there but you have to pay just because.  What do you think?  Is Capcom just being greedy?

its just Xtra skins...of course its only gonna be a few KB, and I dont believe its on the disk either

First off HD skins have textures which takes up several megabytes of storage. And I doubt that my opponents would be able to see my skins if it's not already there, I'm playing Super SF4 and believe me all the content is already there. Check out this rant about RE4, it also mentions SF4 DLC there.

Yep.

They've been pulling this crap for a while now, and they definitely aren't the only ones.

Then again, micro transactions are a bitch whether the stuff is already on the disc or not.

I hate DLC.

I like digital distribution.

I think Capcom has been complete BITCHES this gen with their DLC micro transactions milking. They have these "a few KB" DLCs on many of their titles (SFIV and RE5 comes to mind), they even have extensive DLC weeks after release even for small titles like Megaman 9 and 10. In my opinion, it's disgusting. But I guess, it's business.. Capcom however, has by far been the greediest developer/publisher this gen. Their stance on DLC is the sole reason why I haven't bought SFIV. I did however buy SSFIV. With RE5, the DLC stance is only half the reason why I didn't buy it.

DLC has ruined a lot of games this gen. Along with patches. It seems many developers just don't care about giving the customer a flawless experience. So many games are buggy and some even unplayable at launch. Also, a lot of DLC gets released only weeks after the full game, some even on the same day. It's crazy!

yep. Some of Capcom DLC are not DLC at all. it's just payed unlock. It's really shitty. SF4 Costume colours are a perfect example of the the shittiest DLC ever. Also remember Bethesda with Oblivion pulled similar BS, but not as bad. They learned what DLC value realled meant later on with Fallout 3.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I take patches over a unplayable broken game like Wii Music, Too Human or Ready 2 Rumble Revolution any day of the week.  Also a lot of the patches this generation involve improvements in online play which is a good thing since not all online games can have massive beta testing like Halo Reach or Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Capcom needs to get VALVED!

(Free DLC)

I hate when game companys do this. They wonder why i never buy new games anymore, its getting more expensive to buy the "complete" game.

Easy : Don't buy DLC.
