I think we all need to stop laughing at this and realize its an actual problem. Even if the majority of the complaints stem from Nintendo's decision not to cooperate, that alone is a fault.

Rather than laugh at the issue, we should applaud Sony both for doing more than the average company on the environmental front, and encourage Nintendo to do more, even if that simply means "provide information to environmental protection agencies."

This isn't saying Nintendo is evil, it's just asking for improvement in an arena where they apparently aren't keeping up.

Greenpeace is hardly a major environmental protection organization. They are a radical and independant activist group which is in no way associated with any official worldwide environmental protection agency nor do they opperate under any UN approved restrictions. Nintendo had ever right to refuse to give them information. Criticizing a company for not helping Greenpeace is like criticizing democrats for not being part of moveon.org.

If they wanted people to take them seriously they would have done their own research into the production of Nintendo's products and tested them for any and all possibly harmful chemicals. They also would have taken into account energy consumption and company environmental policies (http://www.nintendo.com/corp/faq.jsp#environment). The list is a joke, and people absolutely should be making fun of it.

"Radical" group is right. Greenpeace are not much better than ecoterrorists. See here:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/10/19/EDGM82CQO01.DTL

"Greenpeace, Inc., and other nonexempt Greenpeace entities benefiting from these transfers have committed numerous acts of eco-terrorism."

I recommend for all those that take GP seriously reading Bjorn Lomborg`s Skeptical Enviromentalist.

So out of the 3 console manufactures Sony is the greenest. Thats odd. Would have expected after WalMart complained to all electronics companies to go green or else they wont sell their products Nintendo would have went green. Would be nice if Walmart would enforce what they say. Forcing all the companies to go more green would be a good thing.

Because we know walmart could crush Nintendo.. I mean theres hundreds of other companies oh wait... videogame market is one of the few that actually has walmart by the balls because only 3 people really involved. Greenpeace is known to just rate poorly when given no info their surveys and statistics are about as flawed as anything out there.

Walmart could destroy Nintendo.  Walmart could destroy ANYONE.  They are the leading retailer by such a large number it's ridiculous.

However, Nintendo is hardly anti-environmentalist.  They simply refused to give information to a radical activist group like Greenpeace, and I applaud them for that.  Terrorism does not help the environment, and the less people tolerate this stupid organization the faster it can die and let real environmental organizations actual help the world.

That´s ridiculous, Nintendo is a family company and should give the example of how it should be done to save the environment for the future of people´s children, but apparently not. The WII may indeed consume the least power, but Sony as well Microsoft are working hard on to reduce that in future consoles.

Sony got a 7.3-10, well done, although for now, they won´t get the same score for power consumption.

They probably spent so much time passing the e-mail from greenpeace around their office and laughing at it that they simply forgot to respond.

I mean really, who takes GP seriously?

You know that GP once publicised that a certain laptop held a dangerous chemichal in it. Yet failed to mention that the amount was deemed safe by the government, or the fact that ALL laptops have the chemical in them as it is a fire-retartant.

The fact that Nintendo failed to give any information is not an excuse.

more, we have to ask the question: "what have they got to hide about it's products and manufacturing techniques, that they wouldn't want to tell Green Peace?"

i would suggest that for a product such as the DS or Wii to be developed and sold at a profit points to some not entirely environmentally friendly manufacturing techniques...

Sorry to debunk the argument on power consumption - the Wii may have the lowest power consumption of all the next gen consules, but it's also sold far in excess of the other consoles, which means Nintendo products are collectively draining more energy than their counterparts (however, this is not a factor examined by the report).

Sony have been stung before in the past and have since cleaned up their act considerably.

MS have never cared about the environment, and so probably never will, what do they care? the operating system that was used to compile that report was probably Windows anyway!

Green Peace are a major international non-government organisation, one of the largest in the world. that means they are supported by public donations and subscriptions, and not by governments. that does not mean that they do not work with governments, because they do, they do work closely with UN organisations, but do not have to abide by their decisions and can lobby governments effectively.

The fact that they are so large shows that they have large scale public support, this report has already gone world wide, and has been reported on major news websites throughout the world. to dismiss Green Peace as a small, unemportant activist group is a falicy.

Shooting at wale fish, for no reason, is an organisation like Green Peace one who tries to stop it. I don't see anyone else trying to stop it, do you?

Top Secret: Greenpeace Report Misleading and Incompetent

Alas, I notice a pattern here.

Sports being big. Press and many groups attack them. Movie Industry got big. Press and a lot of groups attack them. Games and Nintendo get big Press and all different kinds of groups want to find new ways to attack them to. Now I would follow this up by Flaming Green Peace to heck and back but being the Greener more Enviromentally safe Black Mage I am I have to cut down on my Fire spells do to Air Pullution and whatnot.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.
