Forums - Gaming - Why the Hell do people say "Bungie is Gone"?

Someone please explain to me why BOTH PS3 and X360 fans are saying "Bungie is gone"?

PS3 Fans are saying this because it's a major loss to MS and hence rubbing this in the X360 fans whilst the X360 fans are saying shit like "RIP Bungie" because they signed a deal with Activision.

It's not like Bungie won't develop for the X360 so I fail to see the logic in a big loss for MS and since Bungie is gonna own the IP as well as be an Independant Developer, Activision can't recreate the same situation as Infinity Ward. But who knows, Activision as been known as a devilish publisher but that's not the problem so here I fail to see how 'RIP Bungie" makes sense.

And come on people, it's Bungie. They're highly talented and whatever their next IP is, I have high hopes for it and I'm sure everyone else does as well.

And here's an extract from an article that sums up my point:

Microsoft stands to lose some ground from this alliance. As mentioned previously, the lose of Bungie's exclusivity hurts their chances of selling systems based on their first-party software offering. However, Bungie fans are Xbox 360 consumers so they're next project is likely to sell through at a much higher rate on Xbox, only time will tell.

As for Activision, the publisher has been on a whirl wind tour of gaming headlines recently. First, the firing of the Infinity Ward leadership and subsequent implosion of the studio. Next, after pushing one developer away, they make headlines again by pulling another huge developer into their fold. This alliance definitely strengthens Activision's position atop the publishing hierarchy, and saves the company some face. However, it doesn't absolve them from past dealings. Activision's Chief Operating Officer, Thomas Tippl, saying, "this alliance underscores our long-standing commitment to foster the industry's best creative talent," still rings hallow based on their record.

Ultimately, what does this alliance mean for gamers? Well, everyone will be able to reap the benefits of Bungie, a high quality studio, taking a break from Halo and trying something different - there's no down side to that. From an industry perspective, Activision comes up a huge winner securing a cash cow for ten years, and Sony wins by having a triple A franchise land in their lap. Microsoft lose in the sense that they are less able to sell systems based on Bungie's products, but it’s not a substantial lose. It will be very interesting to finally see what Bungie comes up with post Halo.

Thats the thing. Activision will burn them to the ground.

One word.

ACTIVISION

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

Yeah Activision doesn't have a great reputation and people feel that somehow Activision will find a way to sink the company.

In the words of Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw:

"Because people equal shit. I'm shit, you're shit, he's shit, she's shit"

Because they figured out how to work for an even eviler empire than they were working for before?

(it's a joke, people)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

You don't seem to understand what Activision does, they find a game that sells and they milk the sh*t out of it. Poor Bungie is more then likely going to be pumping out 2 - 3 games a year.

Soon enough Bungie is going to have so many games out (not all of them can be high quality, there will likely be a lot of bad eggs if your coming out with so many games) that they will be known as another half ass gaming company instead of a high quality company.

Its not the fact that they are working for activision that is worrying me.....its the situation Activision is in which really points to the possibilty that all bungie will be making are cash-cows.

They just basically lost IW and are now looking to bungie for revenue......to bad cash cows are rarely quality games or games that NEVER push the envelope and are also needed on a yearly basis making every iteration the same.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Bungie was a far better company befor MS and now they have some personal power again. Halo was certainly there worst game they have made. Although MS did a fantastic job getting the game sold.

This Activision deal is minimal. It's just a 10 year partner ship. That's going to be 3-4 games tops. Probably some sci-fi FPS game. It's not like Bungie has the talent to make anything else anymore. I think Bungie is gone, not because they left MS, but because they are Halo clone company now. There good games staff long gone.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I don't think they are gone. But they sold their soul to the wrong devil.
