360 is the best console out period.

PS3 is the best console out, period.

But for the online social gamer, the 360 is the best experience available on a console.  It's a subtle difference, but it is a difference.

A console doesn't make an experience.  The Wii's success is a great example of that.  The community , the software, the programming and the library play at least a big of a role as hardware.  And that's where the 360 excels.

To me, it's like valuing gameplay over graphics, ingenuity over sales.  The reason why a 2-D game or a board game or a Popcap game can dominate one's attention when the new AAA game sits untouched on the counter.  Just my opinion.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

I knew i should've left out the PS3 comparisson. This isnt a 360 vs PS3 thread as many of you seem to think. Its a 360 vs Nextbox thread. Can it last with good enough numbers for 4 more years.. that was the question. Sorry if it wasn't clear enough.

Its kinda of a sub-thread to the my other thread about next gen.

We need to bring back the doomed o meter.

I'm still anticipating new consoles in 2012 - though I think there's more reason than ever for Microsoft to continue support for the 360 beyond the 'Nextbox' release. They've invested a tonne into Natal and will want to keep a healthy install base to sell those games to, as well as the obvious Gold subscribers probably handing MS over $600 million p/a. They won't be in a hurry to just drop support and then attempt to 'win-back' those subscribers.

So no...irrespective of positions and bragging rights I think they'll see that there's a lot financially to warrant extending the life of the console.

I think the days of succeeding in Japan being a prerequisite for total success have passed.

are you kidding? Alan Wake, Crackdown 2, Halo Reach, Gears of War 3, Mass Effect 3, Fable 3, + tons more cool games are still comin out for xbox 360. tell me do you think it's even closer to being domed?

No, Xbox360 has Super Meat Boy coming out soon. Proof enough that the console is in fact the opposite of Doomed, it is Demood!

I'd negate the "still no success in JP" when considering the improvement of sales made there. I personally see too much riding on a 360 slim rumor and Natal for someone to say 360's sales future is looking very bright but I don't see it fading. I honestly don't see it going below 100k for week either but that's just me. Looking at this week's sales make it reasonable to make an assumption that it could.

well if u sell 1 , then you sell 2, people can say they double their sales or 50%-100% improvement >_>

Except we're talking in the hundred-thousands of improved sales.  See the difference?

half million to a million, having pay timed exclusived to most if not all HD JRPG this gen, doesn't sound really like a that "improvement" worth it,

Why yes it is seeing as it was discontinued in 2005.

Clever clever. I thought the same thing when I first saw the title of the thread.

About this time last year, the PS3 was in the same spot as the 360 is today. It was on the edge of falling below 100k a week. Doomed-threads were being posted all over the interwebs. The 360 will get a nice boost on AW week, but after that its kind of slow for a while, so we'll probably see a 90k number soon enough.

The 360 has been outsold since the Slim release (Sept-May), lost the holiday sales, despite having a 199$ console it gets outsold, its in its 5th year on the market, the exclusives are far apart, its currently close to droping below the 100k mark, still no success in JP and is only on top in the US out of all regions.

Do you think the 360 has hit its peak, and is now slowly fading away?
Or do you think the 360 will survive just fine for another 4 years until the supposedly nextbox gets released?

I think the 360 is doing just fine as far as exclusives are concerned.  Already this year it's had Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction, with Alan Wake right around the corner.  That's probably an improvment over where it was at last year so it's definitely not doomed.
