Forums - PC - Making Guild Wars 2 the best MMO ever!

I'll look beyond the unnecessary insult, and give you a rundown:

- Storytelling is stepped up, there is no reason why MMORPGs should be lesser RPGs than normal ones.
- Questing by pressing exclamation marks is gone, you will see events happen and you can choose to do something about it or not (like seeing bandits raid a village, stuff like that).
- Soloing and coop are being melted together. If someone is fighting a monster, you can decide to help them, and both of you will get full XP and loot.
- The World vs. World PvP will be in the same vain, you can choose to join, and you don't need a party, and 501 people on one team will still be better than 500 people. (From earlier posts, the PvP will be objective based. Raid this caravan, protect this castle, steal these catapults, etc.)
- The skill system from GW1 will carry over, but skills will be much more true to their description. If an elementalist conjures a wall of fire, rangers can fire arrows through it to ignite their arrows for example.
- The environment will be usable in combat. There will be things like trebuchets, and if a monster throws a boulder at you, it can be thrown back.

Read the whole thing for the juicy details.

Wait this is being hailed as the best MMO ever, yet is introduces nothing new? Lame. Everything there was been done before. Don't fall for fancy wording.

Right, because the game is out and we know everything about it. There is no MMO developer I trust more than ArenaNet, because they have shown dedication to doing things differently, and not just cloning WoW and everything it cloned. Guild Wars, despite not being perfect, still made every other MMO look dated in my eyes, and did it without a monthly fee. Now Guild Wars 2 looks to make every MMO that has come online since dated, and again without me paying a monthly fee.

Once again, nothing new. Nothing at all. FFXIII will have new types of features. Not the same old stuff just boxed together. I played FFXI and WoW. FFXI is the best MMO I have played yet. 2Moons is a very good MMO, also free. Cabal Online is pretty good too. Guild Wars is decent. Nothing great. It sounds like it will be the same thing, with a few new things(already done in other games) tossed in. With shiner graphics. There is no need to hail it as the WoW killer.

2moons and Cabal are both grind fests that gets boring way too fast and they dont have any decent PvP. In 2moons you just have to never miss and you stunlock your enemy infinitly and in Cabal, you spam the same imbalanced combo over and over again.

Easy, no one is saying anything about a WoW-killer. And if you think it will be more of the same, then you're not following the news. This was announced yesterday:

In GW2, you will have 10 skills available. The first 5 are determined by what you're holding in your hands, no matter what it is. If you holding a rock, your skills will reflect that, if you're wielding fire (as an elementalist), your skills will reflect that and if you pick up a weapon an ally just summoned, your skills will reflect that.

The thing that made Guild Wars awesome was that you had no reason to grind, and every MMO that relies on grind is just too oldfashioned to me. Grind is just the easy way out.

Guild wars was a lot of fun (and had no monthly fees to boot!)

However my next mmo with the the old republic. So I'll probably give this one a miss unless thats a lemon.

I never said you didn't have to grind. But they are fun games. Also that stunlock doesn't work in PvP(The PvP is quite fun in 2moons). And Cabal is more about skill in PvP than what class you pick, unlike most MMOs.

And it still doesn't introduce anything new. It is being over hyped. That is all I am saying. Not saying it won't be fun. Just you guys seem to be overhyping it.

Looks good. Will give a check out, was stuck on an Everquest 2 addiction when Guild Wars came out, so I gave it a miss. Been playing Allods online, a free MMORPG - not too bad, especially for free. Maybe I missed the release date, when does GW2 come out?

I haven't played many MMOs as I usually get bored with them really quickly. World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, 2moons and Flyff are the MMOs I can remember having played and they were all boring. I did however love Guild Wars, and as someone who spent a lot of time in Guild Wars, I can tell just from the things we know now that GW2 is not just "more of the same".
That's like saying Assassin's Creed 2 was more of the same compared to the first Assassin's Creed. Sure, they still revolve around the same themes and share some gameplay mechanics, but there is still quite a difference.

And I'd love to argue about what has and hasn't been done before, but my knowledge on MMOs is simply too basic for that. However, AC2 didn't bring anything new to the table either. All of its mechanics had seen somewhere else before, and yet it was still a great game.

So if you can point me to another MMO that has a persistent world with realtime events as opposed to 'press the exclamation mark to recieve quest', world PvP, a personal story for the player's character (like in normal RPGs), little focus on grind, no penalties for players helping strangers kill foes, underwater exploration (there are sunken kingdoms to be explored) and combat, cross profession combos and combat this visceral, all without paying a monthly fee, then I would love to see it.

OH GOD YES!!!!!!!!!!

They got so many things right it's like they are reading my mind.

They even included a character biography to help roleplaying.

years ago, I daydreamed about being able to do these things in an MMORPG, the only thing from my daydreams that's missing is the dynamic armies from the different races roaming the persistent world and invading cities.

AWESOME!!!!!!!

I LOVE ICELAND!
