I've been a candidate for infant mortality until like 2 y/o. And once close to drowning in my own blood after a car crash that left me with some broken ribs and punctured lung.

Dude.  You just took things to a whole other level.

Glad you managed to stick around.  Stories like that really put things into perspective.  This thread was inspired by a guy that I work with who served over seas.  He told me about how he got shot in Iraq, how he got blown up MULTIPLE times, and how he was missing his testicles, tail bone, and how his legs have all sorts of pins in them and his wrist had to be reconstructed.  All I could come back with was "Pollen makes my nose run alot".

Stories like his and yours make average people's complaints seem trivial (which they are).  Thanks for sharing your experiences, alekth!

Well, as for me, not only I still have my testicles, I also don't have any allergies.

I really don't remember anything from being sick as a baby obviously, but as for the car crash (which was when I was 17, though I still don't remember anything concerning it and the previous couple of days), it took me a couple of years to be able to sit next to the driver and feel comfortable in a car again. Never got a driver's license after that.... though lately I've been considering going for it.

Ya I got a story, the dumbest thing I ever did...

me and my friends were heading to a concert in Montreal (2 hours away at 100km/h) well we grab a 24 of beer and hit the road, we decide to take the back roads and avoid most traffic, well I guess for the driver this was an excuse to drink and drive real fast. So were all putting beers away while driving around 200 km/h, almost getting in accidents with a now drunk driver.

Somehow we made it to the concert, and on the way back we got pulled over for going 10 km/h over the limit, which I found hilarious.

Since then I havn't really talked to the driver of that car or the guy who bought the booze, the whole way back and forth I was practically trembling.

Most stupid thing I'v ever participated in.

I think you should go for it.  Don't let a tragedy stop you from living life to the fullest.  It's entirely your decision, though.  I'm just an imaginary guy from the internet!

I've had a bunch of really close calls.

Almost choked to death twice when I was really young. Not a lot of story here, but choking is not fun and is incredibly scary...

A group of guys (including myself) were trying to throw my friend into the lake. He was a former #1 wrestler, and after a while he picked me up and slammed me to the ground. My head was about 2 inches away from a rather large rock that would have shattered my skull. We stopped immediately after that

I've been in 2 motorcycle accidents (I've posted both on the forums before). The second was a lot more spectacular of a crash, but the 1st had the same potential to be deadly. Also, for my second accident, the ambulance personal actually told me they expected to be scraping body parts off the road and they were shocked that I only had a road rash knee. I've also had many close encounters by idiots who decide they want to drive where I'm currently at.

I once hit a jump on my ski's and went about 30ft straight up in the air (went off and over a quarter pipe at the bottom of the hill with way too much speed and overshot the back of it). falling from 30ft onto basically flat ground has the potential to end really ugly. I didn't get seriously hurt, but I didn't exactly land on my skis either . I did leave about a 6 inch dent in the snow where I first impacted. I basically crumpled to the ground and then slid down the hill for 50-60 ft through mud, snow, and more mud. I also once fell off a grind rail (on my skis) and slammed my head into the ice and went unconscious. Luckily I just ended up with a concussion. I also went off a smaller jump and my left ski fell off mid jump. Landed on my back and got knocked unconscious. While all of them turned out ok, all of them were pretty dang scary and I know other skiers who died from similar accidents.

Out of all the crazy and stupid stuff I've done through the years, I've never broken a bone, and the only time I got stitches was when I stabbed myself (yea... let's not go there...). So while I haven't been rushed to the hospital just in time to save my life, I think I've had more than my fair share of close calls.
