I hate dictators. But, then again, I don't know shorthand.
Ba-dum-bum.

Dictatorships are easy to pull off. Just use nationalism and have them rally behind a leader after a tragic event of some sort. That's all you really need.
Oh, and act like the nation is being victimized by the "aggressors".
Just look at the U.S., it does this all the time.
emperor visari is one cool guy.

"They will know heghan belongs to the helghast"
"England expects that everyman will do his duty"
"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

Queen Elizabeth I was generally good, Augustus was great for the arts, the Flavian emperors were generally good. There are quite a few good ones out there. It's just that the bad ones screw it up badly.aa

Even the idea of elected representation is a form of dictatorship. The difference is you get to choose your dictator and they have to step down after a certain number of years. The degree of dictatorship really depends on the type of system you have. Theres really not much difference between a bad elected official and a bad dictator. With the former you vote them out and the latter has a tendency of getting killed off, either way they get removed from power.
In a way a political party, especially in the U.S with the two party system you would hardly say the average person has much more say than in a dictatorship. The real election can often be the party nomination rather than the general election which essentially transfers power to a much smaller group of people.
Tease.
I have somewhat a fascination for dictators, mostly for the reasons Akvod already listed, power, influence, giving the people (false) hope, historical legacy etc.
It's also funny that dictators become accepted and cool with time.
Everyone will raise their eyebrowns if you tell them you are impressed by Hitler or Stalin, but almost no one will give you a moral lesson if you admire Napoleon, Nero or even Ivan the Terrible.

Yes, Pinochet made several economic changes that would have taken decades in a democracy... of course it's easier when you adopt a policy of killing, throw in jail or send out of the country the people who doesn't agree with you, like this fucker did.
The politic opinions in this country are a mess, a LOT of people here absolutely LOVE Pinochet because of this economic turnaround, but overlook the crimes he and his administration commited.
yeah I like president obama. he seems to be a nice guy. lol
The problem with dictatorships.... is the people who would make good dictators wouldn't want to be dictators.
