I have somewhat a fascination for dictators, mostly for the reasons Akvod already listed, power, influence, giving the people (false) hope, historical legacy etc.
It's also funny that dictators become accepted and cool with time.
Everyone will raise their eyebrowns if you tell them you are impressed by Hitler or Stalin, but almost no one will give you a moral lesson if you admire Napoleon, Nero or even Ivan the Terrible.
