Even the idea of elected representation is a form of dictatorship. The difference is you get to choose your dictator and they have to step down after a certain number of years. The degree of dictatorship really depends on the type of system you have. Theres really not much difference between a bad elected official and a bad dictator. With the former you vote them out and the latter has a tendency of getting killed off, either way they get removed from power.
In a way a political party, especially in the U.S with the two party system you would hardly say the average person has much more say than in a dictatorship. The real election can often be the party nomination rather than the general election which essentially transfers power to a much smaller group of people.
Tease.
