FFIX - 9.0: Not the best in the series, but it's definitely one of the better ones, imo. Great story, lovable cast (Vivi & Zidane mostly), wonderful setting and soundtrack. One thing I disliked was the last boss; it felt completely random. Also, I'm not sure if it was my copy, but there were massive slowdown during that fight, and it made FFIX's slow combat system worse.
FFX - 4.0: Recently played this and not as great as I remembered. Alright, where to start? The voice acting was terrible. Tidus annoyed me with his constant whining. It was too linear for my taste. It was pretty dull just following the arrow and walking down the linear path - no world maps, etc. The encounter rates were horrific; everytime I took three steps, I got sunk into a battle. Speaking of battles, the battle system was nothing spectacular. However, I did like that overdrive mini-game. It's too bad that Auron's button-sequence mini-game never changes when you select the same overdrive move. Whenever I selected the overdrive, I knew what to press.
Blitzball was atrocious. Whenever you encounter someone on the field, you stop and have to select who is going to tackle you and whether you want to pass it. Lol...wtf is that? I tried to navigate my players manually, but I rarely made it close to the opposing team's goal. Not sure if the controls suck or if I just suck, so I let the game do the moving for me. Lastly, the sphere grid was interesting but poorly done. Everyone's sphere grid minus Kihmari (sp?) were on a linear path, and the skills/stat spheres on the grid were pre-determined. You move forward and activate the next node. That's it. Sure it's up to you whether you want to activate it or not, but w/e. I don't know why they just didn't stick with a normal level up system since everyone was in their little bubble 3/4 through the game; it felt more of a chore doing this. DDS did a better approach on character customization. You select the skills you want your characters to learn, and you get to distribute stat points for the main character.
FFX's story did have some memorable moments like the ending, and the music was fantastic. I also liked Yuna, but it's a shame she turned into a whore in FFX-2.
