IX is a 10. My favorite Final Fantasy (along with XII). A game that takes itself seriously, but not too seriously. Walking around town and seeing a fish man, for example, right before that town is destroyed in a spectacular cinematic. The lameness of Kuja as a villain isn't enough to diminish my appreciation for the game. Best soundtrack in the series.
X is a 4. What is fundamentally a decent, though not spectacular, game loses points for piss-poor voice acting (Tidus sounds like motherfucking Cartman throughout the entirety of the game), extreme linearity, and an overly-forgiving combat system that trivializes most of the fights that you should really be worrying about. The goofy setting doesn't help (WTF blitzball).
