Hrm... this is a lot tougher, but I've done every one to this point, and I can keep going!
FF9: It's a marked improvement from FF7, and miles ahead of 8, and well, I'd even go so far as to say it could stand as a decent RPG on the PS1. But I can't quite call it "good." It's nice how as you get further along, there's more optional things and actually things to find that are completely not needed for the main story. It's got the best mini game in an RPG, and I'd even say that its graphics can hold up today. But the game is far too easy, and it really structures to control your upgrading equipment by tying your skills to them. Summons still take too long to cast (no surprise), and really aren't needed, as I've beaten the game without using any of them seriously. There's also a few cheap enemies, though, fortunately, they're optional. Not to mention that I only remember snippits about the story and characters. And what was the end of the game, again? 5.9/10
FFX: Ugh, are we trying to kill the series like with 8 again? The sphere grid leveling system gives it more points than 8, but that's about the only good thing I can say about this game. For an RPG, it's painfully linear. I also highly disagree with switching out characters mid-battle, but this is not only permitted, but encouraged, early in, when only certain ones can hit certain enemies. And the forced mini-games here again are annoying, especially Blitzball. Not to mention that the plot seemed airy and aloof, well, what little of it was memorable, at least. The characters also bored me. Playing this was more of a chore; it was not a fun experience. Plus, get far enough in it, and boy, could you break this game! For a while, many FF games have been finding bigger and better (?) ways to break them. Swap Auron to a path with a fuckton of speed-ups, and watch the game go splat. Not that it wasn't already stupid easy... I really can not recommend this yawnfest.1.1/10
