Stopped with the PS1? Yeah, needless to say, you missed GAMING. What we have today doesn't compare to the absolute glory of the PS1-2 ages, which I both play today more than I do my PS3.

I don't understand this attitude. Gaming today kicks the shit out of those generations in so many ways!

In... graphics, and that would be about it. The 5th and 6th generations are far more heavy on good Japanese stuff which defines console gaming for me... this gen, Japan has dropped the ball a a lot resulting in a rather bad generation. Also, anything done this gen could also be done in the last, too... albeit with worse graphics.

P.S: The Gamecube was awesome and still is!

This generation has seen far more genre experimentation, establishment and proliferation of new and interesting IPs, seriously amped up quality of writing in almost every genre where that sort of thing counts....

I mean shit I'd take my collection from this generation over my collection from every other generation.

How can you dismiss the efforts of Japan so easily? Have you seen the DS? Have you seen what Nintendo is doing? It's a brave new world ripe for exploration, if you're willing to dig your hands into it!

wait...isn't the main reasoning here that your kids reached the age where they wanted video games?

Ehhh... no. My boy was two years old when I put a Wii remote on his little hand. It was I who introduced him to videogames

my mistake.. your OP makes it seem like your kid actually games when he couldn't be any more than 5 right now.

Children that age are some of the biggest gamers on the planet if you let them have free reign.

Should have seen me with the NES....

they never really saved gaming for me because i have yet to tire of it. however they did get me into gaming.

Put all the nintendo fanboy-ism posts aside and look at this thread for what it is.

I have been where you have come from, it isn't nintendo, or any other company (i realise in your case it most certainly was the wii but just stay with me), the fact is, you are a gamer at heart and you will be a gamer forever, and that is the reason you came back to games. Like a smoker who quits only to come back several years later, you are addicted..

No people who are "gamers" drop gaming all the time. It happened to my father a few years back and he was never able to get back into it. Lost the will to play games, as it were.

Everything you said I completely agree with. Up until this gen, gaming was a fun little thing to do while friend's were over, now it's my main source of entertainment next to movies and friends. I never took gaming seriously, because it was like most developers didn't put as much effort into their games. When I compare the crap I played last gen to the games I've played in this one, the quality is much higher and I think it's because of the amount of competition in the industry.

P.S. The DS kill's the Gameboy and the GBA.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Yeah, I got my first NES when I was 5 too..

The difference though, is that the only game I had for a year was mario, and had to borrow games from friends who were reluctant in their sharing of prized possessions. I was just surprised that his son had a "huge universe of games". I drew the conclusion that the kid must've just been older than 2-5 because by the time I had a decent collection i was 10 or 12.

If we assumed that everyone's experiences are based on our own....

I would have to assume the world was much more awesome.
