It's funny how people throw away the word overtracked, always to the Wii or the X360, without taking into consideration some facts. The number of consoles in the distribution channel varies from time to time, you need several weeks of sales in distribution, not a fixed amount. If PS3 is selling now 30000 to 50000 consoles more than Microsoft each week, they need 250000 to 400000 consoles more in the distribution channel. And we are in the slowest months of the year, so having 1.2 million of consoles in the channel is not a low amount, they are 9 weeks of sales, more than what is necessary.

Please, think a moment before saying stupid things.

The majority of people saying overtracked only joined around September last year and will probably be gone by January 2011 so I wouldn't be too bothered about educating them in fairness.  There is a huge number of reasons why the numbers are fine and very few that backup the sentiment it is overtracked.  Lets just forget for instance how in the past the difference between shipped and sold to consumers was bigger than it should be because of the long term adjustments ioi made with Others data after xmas.

look I know they are irritating you, probably me included, but what if you are wrong, PS3 already proved back on the slim launch that people really was waiting for that price drop, the problem is x360 has been affordable for a while and even if the x360 does get another price cut and it does outsell the PS3 it will not be as much as we saw back in 2008, GT5 will help keep PS3 up there trust me.

What if I'm actually right jneul, history would back me if you look at the swings this generation.  Everytime people mention a 360 price drop they say it will not have much effect then proceed to claim a PS3 drop will amplify sales to Wii levels.  GT5 will not suddenly make the Ps3 sell an extra 20-30% a week all the way till xmas, it's not going to happen.  You can expect 2-3 weeks of bump in sales and thats it, after that the effect will wear off within a month.  The 360 has actually increased in RRP in the UK since 2008 (RRP for the Arcade is £159 not £129), that tells me there is a lot of room for movement in price towards that key £99 pricepoint that will turn the UK scenario as bleak as the US for the PS3.  Owning the 2 biggest markets this generation for Microsoft (compared to Sony) would be a huge win to take into the next generation.

I'm not irritated by people willing to discuss properly by the way jneul.  I could very well be wrong but the difference is, if I'm right then I will not make threads proclaiming how amazing I am at pulling a prediction out of my ass with very little true statistical analysis.  There are many users on this site that make the boldest ridiculous claims and take arguments way off topic and then when they get proved wrong they vanish only to return when the wind changes direction again.  Right or wrong I will be around (assuming I don't manage to get permabanned) to accept the plaudits or doff my cap in defeat because I can be gracious when proved wrong.

they did cut the elite price by alot though, it's known fact microsoft won't take back europe, or others, the moment GT5 it's released it' set on stone.

i know u know how huge was halo to microsoft in the US, GT5 it's big, in all  3 regions,  and it's huge in europe.

GT5 is the biggest franchise Sony have left but its come that late in the generation its impact on hardware isn't going to be anywhere near Halo 3.  FFXIII was the biggest IP in terms of Japan, it bumped sales for a month, it doesn't matter how big the game now they will be short term bumps.  Halo Reach will be the same 2-4 week bump too imo.

If the cheapest available console gets a price hike then any price cut on the higher model just shifts sales from one to the other it doesn't drive sales in the slightest imo.

Microsoft just milked Others for profit and now they will have to go for market share.  I happen to think Microsoft cannot win over the course of the generation in Others but they will take the UK, the next price cut will keep them ahead until xmas 2011 then it will be curtains for them as the next PS3 cut will bring the price too close for the 360 to get the extra perceived value it needs to sell.

To clarify all statements above, the Wii has already "won", I'm merely discussing the interesting battle between the HD consoles.
