FFXIII, Demon Soul's was close 2nd because it was so weird, and good. (And I got a big sword, that's a necessity :P)

Fantastic. But finally as a GAME overall: It was actually the Phoenix Wright series......I had never played games like them before and I got crazily addicted to them in a way I never expected to be. I went in thinking they were some niche anime style game BUT boy was I wrong. What I got was some of the most compelling stories, with really classic music & a very polished game with likeable characters (Gumshoe FTW)! Expectations weren't blown, they were bombarded out of the water |
That microwave scene in MGS4 you listed was easily one of the scenes I hated the most. They make you bash the triangle button for too long I can remember just wanting it to be over and thinking if I died I wasn't going to attempt it again for a while not until my fingers were well rested. Luckily I got through it on my first try.
mgs4 was a true gem, didnt like the microwave scene at all or the ending fight. but the other boss fights i loved and would glady play this gem at least once a year if not more.

COD: World at War I had played Modern Warfare , but never got hooked. I always played online deathmatch in other shooters, but after world at war I relized that social gaming is king and I no longer enjoy single player games as much.
MGS4 or LBP I suppose. For the innovation and cinematic story telling.
Although recently GOW III made me rethink what was possible this gen.
Metal Gear Solid 4
Kinda funny that you mention the button mashing scene. I actually beat that 1/1 in MGS1. Friend of mine had a SUPER difficult time with that.
Demon's Souls - this nearly perfect feeling of weight and terror just makes it one of the most immersive games I played
Everybody's Golf: World Tour - the funnest and best online community I've experienced paired with a very deep and challenging gameplay makes this one my favorite sports game I've ever touched
and probably
Civilization Revolutions - I never tried Civ before and now I can see why people are addicted and I fear I'll be addicted once 5 releases .. *sigh*
