Apple is still growing like a beanstalk. Huge YoY growth in iPhone sales, strong growth in Mac sales, iPod sales are flat.

Apple Reports Second Quarter Results

CUPERTINO, California—April 20, 2010—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2010 second quarter ended March 27, 2010. The Company posted revenue of $13.50 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.07 billion, or $3.33 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $9.08 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.62 billion, or $1.79 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 41.7 percent, up from 39.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 58 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple sold 2.94 million Macintosh® computers during the quarter, representing a 33 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 8.75 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 131 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter. “We’re thrilled to report our best non-holiday quarter ever, with revenues up 49 percent and profits up 90 percent,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve launched our revolutionary new iPad and users are loving it, and we have several more extraordinary products in the pipeline for this year.”

“Looking ahead to the third fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue in the range of about $13.0 billion to $13.4 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share in the range of about $2.28 to $2.39,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO.

A) Sometimes I wish I owned Apple stock

B) Nice new avatar.

Anytime in the last ten years would have been a great time to own Apple stock. It doesn't seem possible for Apple to maintain this pace for so long, but so far...

And thanks. Khuutra thinks I'm more respectable now that I've ditched the flying monkey, but I think Frederick is now alarmed and concerned about every word that I type.

8.75 million iPhones in 3 months

HOLY BEJEEZUS!!!

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

BTW, Apple is going to be worth more than Microsoft soon. When the iPhone 4g is released, I expect Apple to pass MS. Maybe even before that. Especially if a Verizon iPhone is announced.

There are two incredible things about that number.

1. It is actually slightly higher than the number Apple shipped in the holiday quarter.

2. iPhone sales usually peak when they release the new models, which will either be at the tail end of this quarter or the very start of the next one.

Q2 should pretty much be the weakest quarter for iPhone sales, but here they are stronger than ever before. The main credit seems to be extremely robust growth in European and East Asian markets.

Apple can continue this growth for a long time. Many people are willing to pay a premium for Apple products and their marketing and brand value is rivaled by very very few. Their customers are also very loyal. The Ipod sales will probably continue to be flat or may decline(though still very profitable) but their mac market share can continue to grow, their IPhone market can continue to grow, and their Ipad market will continue to grow. And in five years or so I'd expect they'd come out with another new device to sell. But on top of all that the Ipad and Iphone will continue to bring in huge revenue streams from App downloads and advertisements.

The stock is already pretty expensive with a P/E ratio in the mid 20's but I think I am gonna purchase some shares soon because not only will I get a nice return in the long run but most importantly so it wont bother me every time my friends act as if Apple products are the only electronics that exist. And when they tell me how amazing the Iphone is or the Ipad will be and I tell them oh cool there are 10 other devices that do the same things, they don't believe me.

At this point, the detractors who say Apple doesn't matter to gaming because it isn't a gaming device first, doesn't have buttons, doesn't have a first party, or doesn't have any good games should probably reevaluate their position.

Between the iPhone and iPod Touch, that's a *lot* of potential customers for music, apps, and games.

Apple seems to go scale higher and higher heights. Even if they decline at some point in the future they have their 40 billion (and growing) warchest as insurance against it. Apple are in an extremely comfortable position.
