Forums - Gaming - So I finished Bayonetta and an odd thing happened . . . **Spoilers**

I know how you feel...

There are games I play sometime and feel that I completely wasted my time when I beat them. I feel like such a loser afterwards... Some games this gen that gave me this feeling are:
MGS4, Gears of War 2, Alone in the Dark...

But then there are games like Bayonetta and Splinter cell where the experience is so brisk and enjoyable that I don't mind dying 20-30 times to finish them...and I feel a sense of acomplishment afterwards. Beating Halo 3 on legendary alone...oh man, I felt so badass afterwards for a week straight. lol...yeah I know im still a loser...but I dont care.

Edit- but older games is where its at if you want that feeling. Battletoads for example...if you beat that you will feel like you are god. You prolly are god actually.

I also agree that games are too "easy" now, but then if you look back to what made those games hard it was typically poor design along with no way to save. As much as I like hard games, I'd rather not go back to bad design or cheap tactics.

I think Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World might be some of the more rewarding and non-cheap games from back then, you can't say they were easy, but not cheap either. Yes, bad game design sucked. Thank god for the Konami code in Contra!

Contra wasn't actually all that hard to beat with 3 lives...

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

You can't see me right now, but it's hard to type because I'm flipping you off with both hands.

Kidding of course. I was never that patient as a kid, so I tended to cheat if I could. Didn't work with Ninja Gaiden though, and those cutscenes sucked me in, I had to see what happened.

I never said I didn't cheat I just cheated first to learn the game, and then would run through with 3 lives later. I know I couldn't do it now without a "refresher".

I remember the times I beat Dreadnought's Purple Coins, Luigi's Purple Coins, Bouldergeist's Daredevil, and Lava Spire's Daredevil... definitely times of elation for sure.

And I can't even remember how many times I pressed the restart button in Fire Emblem. Losing even one character was not an option.

You're a winner in my book.

Losing Meg & Fiona is the only proper way to beat fire emblem

Okay, I laughed out loud on that one. Gosh... Meg... *rolls eyes*

I remember the first time I beat the game and while in the final tower one of my units was defeated but didn't die *I'm pretty hurt! I'm going to go back to camp* (or something like that). So I said to myself, "Well... he didn't die... so no worries!". But when the credits rolled and it went over everyone's future, the character wasn't there. I was so pissed, as it counted in a death... "BUT HE DIDN'T DIE! ARGH!" So over to the Wii I went and pressed the Restart button.

So is Fire Emblem a DS or Wii game or a VC game? Not finding it a gamestop.com.

Try Demon's Souls, maybe you'll come to like it.

Not cheap, but greatly rewarding.

I finally beat down Jubelius after trying after the checkpoint about 6 or 7 times, and evenutally had to restart the level and do a better job with the motorcycle sequence with Jeanne to ensure that I had enough powerups to finish it (let's just say I'm not awesome at these types of games), and when I was done I felt a real sense of accomplishment. And it felt weird. I thought about it for a moment, and realized that it might have been the first time this gen, and maybe even before this gen that I felt that level of accomplishment for completing a game. It was difficult, but not cheap and super rewarding. It's actually made me rethink some things about why I play games. I mean, I LOVE Mass Effect, but even finishing it on insanity didn't give me nearly this feeling.

This made me go and finally invest in Super Mario Galaxy, another brilliant game that can take a ton of skill. I want that feeling again. Does anyone else think that the way games have been made this gen take some of the feeling of accomplishment out of them? I mean, I beat the original Ninja Gaiden on the NES and that was probably about 5 times as difficult as Bayonetta, are games just too darned easy?

I agree that the satisfaction of beating ME 2 on insanity was not that great, it just felt annoying for much of it, but I did feel an incredible feeling of acomplishment when I finished Mordin's level. However, very few games have given me that sense of satisfaction, but I enjoy games more without having to climb that cliff personally
