I think Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World might be some of the more rewarding and non-cheap games from back then, you can't say they were easy, but not cheap either. Yes, bad game design sucked. Thank god for the Konami code in Contra!

Kidding of course. I was never that patient as a kid, so I tended to cheat if I could. Didn't work with Ninja Gaiden though, and those cutscenes sucked me in, I had to see what happened.
