Forums - General - Thread of 'Iceland causes rest of Europe problems'

Ah, my apologies. I thought you were from Portugal, as your profile states.

I know there are other ways to ship, that will obviously be used to compensate for this. I'm not trying to bring about some sort of doomsday nihlism. I just know how integrated America is with airplanes, and the incredible cost it would be to ourselves if suddenly, one day, we could not fly for an indefinite period of time.

Yes that's where I'm from, but I've been living here for a while.

Amazing pictures of the volcano in Iceland:

Thanks! My phone desperately needed new wallpaper.

Those pictures with lightning are awesome.

I hope the farmers in Iceland turn out ok. The shots of one looking for lost cattle is pretty saddening.

I hope this doesn't hit Europe too hard. Now is not the time for more economic hurdles.

@makingmusic, that was my thought exactly. With the economic problems in Europe (namely, the Greek bailout), the continent can ill afford other financial setbacks like this.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It's not just Europe either, the F1 commentators in Australia just mentioned that the next Moto GP (motorbikes) in Japan may be cancelled due to the Icelandic eruption. The whole world is being screwed over by the eruption and not only is it not slowing, but there is a huge volcano next to this one that always gets set off by the one going off now.

It's not good at all guys..

I would imagine that is more for logistical reasons, I doubt Japan would be affected. Well, at least to the extent of calling off moto GP. I imagine Moto GP is a global effort and would require a lot of travelling, and I doubt participants and other people involved would be able to travel to Japan because the planes are grounded.

...

I have just been to the coast for four days and I noticed that on the first day I could see the Isle of white quite clearly from the coast, but on the fourth day it was almost invisible. I imagine this was due to the ash and not the weather, and if it was the ash there was certainly a lot of it.

Anyway, our fair continent will survive.

This pictures are just jaw dropping

According to AJE, eruptions from the volcano have intensified in the past few hours, putting the plan to reopen airspace in doubt.

I saw that on CNN a few hours ago. I was unsure if they were saying something meaningful or not.

Not good to hear that things are getting worse instead of better.
