Not that much no.

Would you seperate the sales of a game available on PC and Mac?

Yes. Yes I would. My question was actually meant rhetorically, because the two userbases do have different buying habits.

I've never seen an article talking about the success of World of Warcraft, that bothers with how many players it has on a given platform.

Because nobody cares. Also, PCs aren't made by a single company like game consoles.

Although Macs are made by a single company...  but without a doubt, the platforms affect the context.  Talking about consoles is different from talking about PCs and Macs.  I think Khuutra was saying he would treat the sales of PC games which also happen to be available for Mac with the same sanctified separateness we should always apply to 360 and PS3 sales.  I could be wrong...?  (The conversation seems pretty vague, but maybe it's just spread out over the thread.)

They're not sanctified and separate, they're just not indicative of similarities of buying habits of the different userbases unless the ratio of userbase to sales is the same on both platforms. That's all I'm saying.

Don't worry I think the HD / Super Elite Hardcore crowd has switched to unrealistic sales for their systems then focusing on the games sold. Just compare the top games for each system it is pretty easy to see that the Wii kicks the HD systems ass in top 5 sales for each system.  Userbase favors Wii a lot but even before the Wii shot out in front their top games were far outselling their HD top games.

Its a marriage of convenience lol. I mean the Wii has more than double the install base of PS3 and over 30m more units than the 360. The only way for some of these folks to have any solice whatsoever is to combine the sales of both platforms (even if they favor one over the other or completely hate the other HD console) To make themselves feel better about the domination of an underpowered 'casual' system over the multimedia hd systems.

This stuff doesn't bother me at all..at least not anymore. You get used to the hypocrisies and double talk. Its to the point where its entertainment and nothing more. Like the whole PS3 shortages..Its real because Sony is trying to appease all of this unbelievable demand! Yet the Wii, during their shortages was being manufactured by Nintendo to create more demand (as if that makes any business sense) and the Wii was selling twice that the PS3 is. Motion Controls a gimmick until the competition reveals theirs. Now its the bees knees.

And in this case, the whole NMH game..Its sold like crap on evey single system in Japan. But the sales are a flop on Wii but magically its "not bad considering" Fans of the HD consoles want to highlight a game on Wii not selling, blame it on the consumer and the system, but when a game flops on the HD consoles, its either because 'the competition is tougher' or the game sucked plain and simple.

Then if a game sells on Wii that is Mature it no longer counts because its part of a well known franchise lol. Yet most games that sell in general are part of a well known franchise. I love the theatre. Just enjoy the show my friend. There are much more important things to worry about than videogames..At least imo..But then again I'm just a casual gamer.

1. I'm not bothered that the underpowered console is dominating, I'm bothered the console with the worst library is dominating. This is the only generation I've felt this. I can live with last gen graphics, but how about some last gen quality games.

2. I'm sensing its BS as well. All motion controls are a gimmick. I'm not crazy about Wiimote either.

3. It would be more interesting to debate NMH if the Wii and HD releases came out at the same time. Late ports pretty much always sell worse. For example, 360 timed exclusive JRPGs don't sell well on the PS3. Yet JRPGs released on both HD consoles at the same time dominate on the PS3.

4. Well the best selling Mature games on the Wii are popular franchises. But you could also argue the other Mature games on the Wii aren't great.

You aren't a casual gamer. You have a huge collection, you're very savvy of all this interweb BS, and you're clearly bias torwards Nintendo. A true casual gamer doesn't know about any of this shit and doesn't care. You act like you're above it, but you are totally apart of it.

I think it's quite logical to compare the Wii and the HD twins, no problem with that, no "Wii hate" either. Just a way to observe what the market and the gamers want.

Anyway, I don't understand how anyone can be upset by this. Seriously, who cares ?

We don't compare the consoles, we compare the games.

Who's "we" in this context?

Well the ones he's accusing in the OP.

Let's take the example of the upcoming Prince of Persia. The game is different on all consoles except on PS3 and 360 where they are the same. So the sales should be considered differently on PS3 and 360 even though it's the same game?

Don't the two userbases have different buying habits?

I don't think they do. Not that much that it really matters, anyway. All you need to do is look at the top selling games on each console.

In the top 5 selling 360 games, all of them involve killing people. The same goes for the PS3.

Both of them sell RPG's really well, of Western and Japanese varieties.

Both sell racing and sports games pretty much the same...

Now, if we compare either PS3 and/or 360 to the Wii... THAT'S where i think we see the different buying habits, on a whole new level.

Isn't that something of a gross oversimplification?

I think you are just arguing they don't have the exact same buying habits. But they clearly have similar buying habits.

I'm arguing that they have different buying habits that are different enough to ackwnoeldge that their userbases have unique tastes and gaming values. Tha they are more similar to each other than to the Wii userbase does not mean that the two of them are somehow interchangeable.
