Forums - Gaming - Infinity Ward insider says the studio is “dead”

The story that comes to mind is the goose that lays golden eggs - Activision didn't just kill it, they pulverized it, cremated its remains and scattered them into the ocean. Regardless of the developers at IW's conduct, I'm amazed that Kotick et al was able to so efficiently destroy what is arguably the biggest franchise not owned by Nintendo.

good...after the laziness/poor work of mw2, it might be better if the studio was dead.

lol good luck Activision making MW3 as good as CoD4/MW2 with half of the Infinity Ward members missing.

When it's your company, everything under you is your fault. Everyone makes mistakes. (Activision) But, the employees besides Zampella and is partner who breached their may or may not have breached their contracts. the ones under them, programmers etc. Why would or should they stay with infinity ward if EA would treat them better? Regardless of whether Zamplella was recruiting. Activision if they thought the team was important should have made them an offer they couldnt refuse.

And if Activision doesn't think they need them, thats fine too.

If you ask me, because I wouldn't trust working for people with so low moral character as to stop doing their job just so they could better recruit me to their next job.  How can I trust people like that?

Especially when these are people who abandoned you before and left you in the lurch. It's like some sort of horrible romance story

My guess is that Activision is going to paralyze Respawn, especially if Respawn does end up just being Infinity Ward redux. Activision will make sure they can use exactly none of the resources they ever conceived at Infinity Ward. Dev tools, assets, nothing. They are going to have to start from square one.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Ok, i'll rephrase, you think it's a good idea that talented people get rewarded for being unethical and not holding up to the terms of their contract.

There is a difference between being unethical and not holding up the terms of their contract. The West and Zampella were morally in the right, even if Activision wins the suit.

Are you actually going to explain why it's morally right to not deliver on your contract terms, negotiate when your contracturally not alowed too... and deny your subordinates additional bonuses?

Hm meh is anyone actually surprised?

1. The contract terms may be unreasonable
2. Workers should always have the right to leave their current jobs if they are dissatisfied with the working environment
3. No one with half a brain honestly thinks West and Zampella were denying their subordinates their bonuses. If that were the case then why have over a dozen of those same subordinates quit Infinity Ward over the course of the last few weeks, presumably to join Respawn?

1) How were they unreasonable?  Your arguement is... the terms were unreasonable... maybe?  Also if the contract terms are unreasonable... there is this thing you can do called... not signing it in the first place.

2) Then they shouldn't sign contracts to do so?  If you don't like your contract your only option is to sit home.  Without pay until your contract runs out.  If you don't like it... don't sign a contract like that!  That was their options... they chose instead to violate the terms of their contracts.  If you did such a thing in a sports league you would be HEAVILY fined and be forced to sit out the rest of your contract.  Once again, they WILLINGLY signed away this.

3)  Your second part exlains the first.  They played activision, stalling the bonuses to make them look cheap.  Now few people believe those were really coming... (even though in this very article it's brought up) anddd everyone left.

If the terms were unreasonable it doesn't matter from a moral standpoint if you violate them. Morality and legality are two separate things.

So they violated the terms of their contract. Who cares? Is not obeying Bobby Kotick's every whim really such a terrible thing?

Not obeying your evil corporate overlords doesn't make you immoral.

Everyone left because they trust West and Zampella and not Activision. You might want to consider why that might be.
