Forums - Sales - DSi XL moves 141,000 units since March 28 US debut

Nintendo's new upsized hanheld, the DSi XL, had a "solid" sales debut in the U.S. in March, according to a post-NPD report from Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter.

The handheld didn't arrive Stateside until March 28, but still managed to sell 141,000 units, Pachter said. The entire DS line, which now includes the DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL, sold 700,800 units total during the month, NPD reported Thursday evening. The portable retails for $189.99 in the U.S.

The DSi XL's main selling point is its larger screen, which measures 4.2 inches diagonally. The DS Lite' screen is three inches, and the DSi's is 3.25 inches.

The DSi XL launched in Japan as the DSi LL in November 2009, and in Europe on March 5. The Nintendo DS line has sold over 125 million units as of December 2009. Of that amount, the young DSi LL had sold 700,000 units in Japan as of the end of last year.

The larger screen of the DSi XL and the larger pen-like stylus is friendlier for older users and better for surfing the internet, Nintendo has said.

Clearly you feel that everyone is the same.

I just bought a DSi XL and it's my first DS. I've been wanting to get a DS for myself, but the other models just made my hands hurt after a few hours of playing on them, since they were so tiny and left my hands in akward angles.

Now, with the DSi XL, I have no issues at all. So yeah, variety is a good thing, because, guess what? People are different >_>

Glad you're happy with your DSI XL, it's huge but a great machine.

It's the best gaming hardware ever for me, I'm in love with it! My super street fighter game just arrived and I don't want to play it because I'm having so much fun with the DS!  And I never had a DSi before, my other DS is the DSLite - so DSIWare, the DSi Camera and Flipnote studios are amazing!!!

My only complaint is the camera quality, you can't move at all in front of it, but other than that... it's amazing, amazing. And the new stylus... and amazing new color (bronze)...

seems to be the main SKU in Japan now, i guess it's just a side SKU in the US. It's good to give gamers more options though.
