Forums - General - Insane things done when people love an animal...

I actually just found a no-kill group called "Pets Alive" located in NY in the Catskill Mountains. They tend to take older animals and I will be giving them a call tomorrow and hopefully I can get them to take him.

The way to go would be to take him to a no kill shelter and clearly explain that all he did was air snap and your niece walked into it. Doing it as such and considering his age, it's likely they'd take him.

Old dogs are like kids over 4 at an orphanage. Except... they kill them.

There is a such thing as a No Kill Shelter?

Most definitly.  They're real popular in ohio, my girlfriend worked at one... you can dontate to them etc.

I did some research and found a directory above.

Non-profit organizations that take in undesireable and negelected animals... great places really

Hopefully better dog training will be taught.  Otherwise this whole situation may just repeat itself with your other dog.  Just because they're tiny... it doesn't mean they can't do real damage.

I agree and I also am extremely thankful that you informed me about the existance of no-kill shelters.

Even the doctors said it looked to be the outcome of an air snap gone wrong, so I am going to be very hopeful when I begin making calls tomorrow.

If this route proves successful it will be a great relief for all of us here.

Yeah, i'd just really emphasize that point... probably would help.  Depending on the place it may not be any better then just being put in a cage and only getting to go outside every once in a while or they may have large pens like yards the dogs can run around in, but either way it's better then dead.

One place in Ohio is literally just a residential house for cats where every diffrent room... volenteers would stay at the house change all the food play with them etc.  That was a particularly nice place.

I have a sad for the dog :(

I mean of course what he did was wrong but people tend to forget that dogs are not like humans and they don't react the same as us to different situations.

I am not saying it isn't my sister's fault, because I know it is, but the dog is still agressive to any child that sets foot at the house.

As a parent I would never side with an animal like that.

The question is why. Is the dog aggressive to kids simply due to some dominance issue (in which case the dog has to be trained or kept away from children), or is it that kids have been allowed to torment the dog before?

If it's the latter then there's a lot of reason to side with the dog.

When someone gets a dog, it's their responsibility to secure the dog's safety, and the safety of those who interact with the dog. By making the dog unsafe, you are not only mistreating the animal, but also putting people in danger. If you can't keep the dog safe, you have no business owning a dog.

Thats really sad, I'm glad she's ok.

At the same time if that was my dog, I wouldn't put him down either, because ATM I see my own dog like a real brother, its hard to send him to like die even if he commits such a crime.
