The first 12 minutes makes no sense at all. Alan Wake: " ..to reach my destination, a lighthouse for some urgent reason I couldn't remember."

Alan Wake, a man who goes places for reasons he can't remember. Lame

You know its a dream right?

You telling me you know why you dream about some random place with random people?

The opening chapter is a dream Alans having. Then in the 2nd chapter he wakes in the car next to his wife arriving at Bright Falls.

It's just a tutorial. And an inventive way to do one, I might add.

Oh ok I see, thats why its called "Nightmare", and here I thought it was describing the voice acting. My mistake.

Multiplatform engines didn’t do the Xbox360 justice

Let’s face it. The PS3 has been kicking the Xbox360 ass in the visuals department in the last two years. While games such as Mass Effect 2 and Gears 2 are visually stunning games, the PS3 has been raising the bar visually with its biggest exclusives such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and the recently released God of War 3.

The point I want to clarify here is, Mass Effect 2, which is the best looking game on Xbox360 is running on the Unreal Engine 3 (multiplatform engine). Most of all Xbox360 games (exclusives and multiplatform) do run on multiplatform engines. With most of the biggest exclusives on Xbox360 are powered by the Unreal Engine 3 (Mass Effect 2, Gears of War 2, Lost Odyssey and etc). Multiplatform engines are designed to run on multiple platforms, which means they aren’t created to take full advantage of a specific console/platform. Yes, we see games such as Mass Effect 2 look better than an average Unreal Engine 3 game. But that because of the developers who are creating the game. With better art design and better optimization, a game can look better than another even if they are running on the same engine.

This year, we are seeing Xbox360 exclusives running on new engines or to be more accurate, engines that created to take full advantage of Microsoft’s console. Halo: Reach looks so much better than Halo 3 and ODST, but the real star that showed what the Xbox360 is capable of is Remedy’s upcoming Psychological thriller, Alan Wake.

Alan Wake not just raising the bar for Xbox360 in term of visuals, it’s raising the bar for this whole generation. Technically and artistically, Alan Wake is shaping up to be the best looking game this generation. From the real-time projected shadows produced by the essential flashlight, the total absence of aliasing (720p 4x FSAA), the breathtaking realistic lighting effects (the best I have ever seen), the epic scale of the environments, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), the atmospheric effects to the vegetation which interacts with characters and wind, and the absent of screen tearing. Truly impressive stuff.

The best thing Sony did this gen is they let their first party devs to create games with one thing in mind: Taking full advantage of the PS3 power. That’s why we have been seeing PS3 exclusives looking better than Xbox360 games. Things are about to change now, as we are seeing games such as Alan Wake equaling or surpassing PS3 exclusives in term of visuals. And the most impressive thing is: Alan Wake is running on a $199 console with l imited storage capacity (DVD9). It will be interesting to see what does Sony have up their sleeve at the upcoming E3.

With Uncharted 2 you can always tell when it's gameplay or cutscene. With Alan Wake you can talways tell.

Uncharted 2's ingame graphics look better than the video cutscenes in Alan Wake. Maybe they downgraded those visuals to suit the rest of the game.

Watching your comments in here remind me of when I was a kid. Scraping the bottom of the bowl after my mum made chocolate cake.

You are dreaming if Uncharted 2 looks better. Here look. Press both buttons at the same time. 1 looks like CGI. And anyone here complaining about animation in Alan Wake, also need to note the regualr twitches that happen to Drake.

Your dreaming MikeB. The media will show you to. On a technical note AW wins as well. 4xMSAA. Full Screen.

They look so similar that to distinguish difference between the two is of opinion and not fact. Off topic: Uncharted's story and presentation are top notch and with great voice acting = A really damn good game. That video makes me want to play the game again.

Alan Wake looks great, and besides graphics are not the main draw to it anyway. The graphics are just the frosting on the cake!

IMO, it can't compete with Uncharted 2 in terms of character models. Alan Wake looks a bit hideous. Some Alan Wake action (when he is in the house) remembered me a bit of Threepio (C3-PO) from Star Wars. I don't know why, it was just a feeling. Strange.

Looking at Alan Wake again with more realistic expectations, it does look better than average. Also, for those of you comparing the two videos of the first ten minutes, keep in mind that BOTH games feature pre-recorded footage masquerading as "in game". The difference is, at this point, I know EXACTLY where Uncharted 2's pre-rendered footage kicks in (it's pretty seamless) and I don't know where Alan Wake's pre-rendered footage does........yet.

And thats the point Ive been making. With Alan Wake you just cant tell alot of the time. It's stupidly scary.

And people, let's not forget that Uncharted 2 is not possible on 360 :

It's not really difficult to see why you can't notice the difference between cut-scenes and gameplay with such a low quality footage.

But knowing the video playback capabilities of the 360, let's be realistic and admit we will all see a very noticeable difference between the 2 "parts" of the game.
