Forums - Gaming - There is no reason for Splinter Cell Conviction to stay exclusive

Something tells me MS already compensated for all the lost profit to Ubisoft.

Possible but it makes no sense to do this on MS's part. Game isn't like GTA4 other type of game which will sell consoles. Possibly a temporary exclusive like GTA4 DLC...

Those temp exclusives work pretty well it seems. GTA4 DLC is coming out for PS3 and PC this month and no one seems to care...

I can't wait for GTA: EoLC. Pre-ordered it and it's coming tomorrow.

Though I'm not really that interested in Conviction.

I think Ubisoft will be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't port this over to PS3.

The game is great, a lot better than I thought it would be. And while its cool that 360 owners got firs dibs on this title...there really isn't anything about it that limits it to the 360 as a console or its userbase.

Its not a system seller that MS would want to secure, its not a visual powerhouse which can't be ported to a console easily, its not a game which requires a function of XBL or will only appeal to the 360 crowd...etc

The only reason why older splinter cell games sold better on Xbox is because the PS2 versions sucked since the system couldn't handle them very well. Those times are gone...

In any case, I hope Ubisoft ports this game to PS3 soon and that everyone can experience this kick ass game. I finally got my copy today and don't have to go over to my buddies place to play it like I did for the last 2 days... :)

Hey, here is an idea.  How about I cross out Splinter Cell Conviction, in the subject header, and replace it with Metal Gear Solid 4, and also make the needed tweaks to turn it into an old "PLEASE MGS4 on the 360... PLEASE!" message?

I'll save some people the bother of replying.  You're just basically going to get some people replying that it should stay PS3 exclusive while a similar kind of game that is 360 exclusive should be multiplatform.  They'll give BS reasons like it being associated with the PS brand (like GTA or Devil May Cry were for example) or that it wouldn't sell very well on 360 (because as we all know action games have a hard time selling on it) but at the end of the day it's just console bias that they're trying to justify.

I don't want this to happen unless the 360 gets Haze.

While I haven't played Haze and can't comment personally...it is my understanding that the game sucked. But I guess Vampire Rain and Alone in the Dark sucked and got ported to PS3...so why not.

its on the 360 and pc how is it exclusive to the 360?

I can see this being another timed exclusive since ubisoft usually isnt one for exclusives

agree

The question is, will it be worth doing the delayed port? It seems experience has shown that delayed ports, even of AAA games, don't generally sell all that well on the 2nd system. Well at least 360-->PS3 late ports don't seem to do all that well.

PS3 gamers would be well served by having SC:C on that system as it would be a great addition to the PS3 library. But now that PS3 has a decent library of games, not getting a late port isn't really as big of a "loss" as it would have been a few years ago.

I'm guessing you ignore "Mass Effect should be on PS3" threads.

That stuff happens on both sides.

Mass Effect should be on the PS3 is like this thread.  The most noted PS3 game should be on the 360 thread involved MGS4.  I believe it was FAR more because XBox partisans wanted to shove it in the faces of PS3 partisans more than actually wanting the game.  Also, the 360 generally has gotten everything the PS3 has, while the PS3 hasn't gotten everything the 360 has.  I would count Oblivion as probably the biggest 360 to PS3 game, followed up by Bioshock.

MGS4 would take millions and 5 disc with uncompressed video to come on 360 this entire series could fit on one blu-ray hence it will likely come to the PS3
