...will it be the first time a home console has its best sales in its 5th year?

There´s the possibility that a Natal/price drop/new slim system combo will allow this year to be the best one the 360 has ever seen since its launch.

So, if it happens will it be the first time a home console manages this feat?

Not sure, but it'll probably be the first time a console that isn't in first place has had such a long lifespan.

I honestly believe the system will peak in 2011..

several factors lead me to believe that..

1. It will have a price cut (BUT, even if it does, its already consumer friendly price wise, and history says once at 199 a console reaches its peak sales rather rapidly)

2. NATAL may be a huge success and potentially an easy system seller

3. HALO reach and potentially GEARS 3/HALO 4 combo

Microsoft is in a good position, and I thikn they can easily keep the 360 in the market without announcing a NEXBOX in 2011 or even 2012.

I am not sure about the peak year either (though I thought the NES peaked in 89, year 6), but I can tell you for certain that as impressive as the 360 and PS3 are doing for 2nd and 3rd place consoles, they have a long ways to go to touch the Intellivision for years on the market for a non-market leader - 12.

I think they'll wait to 2012 to announce the nextbox. I mean why announce a new console when 2011 is likely to be a big year for them?

360 will probably peak this year, PS3 next year. Wii on the other hand is...well, Wii.

didn't the PS2 actaully sell more than the Xbox 360 during its launch year?
was it the year 2006?

though I think the new momentum of the PS3 since the slim will prevent the 360 to reach any more hights....though it's true Natal is a big unknown and I do think it should move much more consoles than the move...
