I agree

Second off, neither are more advanced. They're both really damn simplified from even the earliest RPGs (like Dungeons & Dragons). I mean...what's so sophisticated about most WRPGs? Mass Effect 2 is really one of the only WRPGs that's doing anything significant for the genre.

Mass Effect 2 has done nothing significant for WRPGs. If removing RPG elements in favor of more action is advancement then I hope we stagnate in the past.

It focuses on dialogue and interaction rather than a myriad of sidequests.

more work and better tech=more enemies on screen

less work and worse tech=less enemies on screen

I don't see what is the confusion...

Also, they couldn't even bring towns in FF13 (Probably best jrpg), and if you look into and wrpg these days theres town everywhere

Man, what a trainwreck of a post (and opinion!)

In Kingdom Hearts 2 there is a part with 1,000 enemies on the screen, IN THE SAME TIME, and the game still runs at 60 frames per second.

Does that make it the best RPG ever? no.

NOW, for the rest of the thread:

It's funny to see the pepole in both camps, most of the WRPG lovers didn't play a single game before this generations, almost all of the rest didn't play a game that's earlier than KotOR, and it's funny because almot all of this genre's classics are from before then (Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1+2, Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate 2).

And JRPG lovers - it's funny how pepole bring FFXIII as a good example, why don't you guys go and play the REALLY good games, games who aren't part of the FF series, now part of DQ, aren't part of KH, Chrono Trigger or Persona...

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

i know this isnt  a wrpg, but gta4 has probably a few thousand people on screen at once

Citing FFXIII as reason why JRPGs are superior to WRPGs is the biggest joke I've seen in the thread. FFXIII isn't close to being the best JRPG of this generation, it's not close to being the best JRPG on PS3, and it certainly isn't the close to being the best in the series.

How does it focus more on dialougue and Interaction in relation to games like Planescape: Torment or Fallout 1 and 2? In Earlier WRPGs it's completely possible (if very difficult) to finish the game without killing anybody at all completely through dialogue, something that is not possible in Mass Effect.

jrpg's are much better

Seriously, apart from stats and levels (and the RPG shared in the name) what is similar between those two?
Story presentation and progression, battle systems+gameplay, character control/development, overall design are too different to compare.
It is not impossible for someone to like both, but for those who only like one of them for the most part comparison in terms of how advanced they are is impossible since they move in different directions to start with.

Persona 4>>>>FFXIII and Mass Effect 2

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

100% agree with this statement. Seriously guys Atlus is doing a much better job with the genre than SE, why u guys continue too look at SE for your "good" JRPG's is mindboggoling. Ever since the merger with Enix, they have not produced anything worthwhile. Where as Atlus, a small company with not so big a budget for their games, is pulling out timeless classics like Persona 4, Devil Survivor, and other SMT games. I am looking at them now for my JRPG fix and IMO they are the true kings of the genre. SE can fuk off!!
