Forums - Gaming - WRPGs more advanced than JRPGs agree?

The best JRPG ever is Mass effect :>

Around the Network

WRPGs tend to be deeper. In a WRPG people actually say something when you steal stuff from their houses. In JRPGs you can just rip off people right in front of their face and they say nothing.

simple answer. Final Fantasy XIII. you find a WRPG more technicaly advanced than that and i will salute you

I don't think WRPG are more advanced, both genres are actually pretty different.

JRPG are character focused, with a linear story
WRPG are Universe focused, with a more open world

BUT, this gen in particular, JRPG mostly suck, while we have already had some pretty sweet WRPG

mass effect 2, what you did in the first game actually affect greatly the world you live in, in the second game

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

JRPGs are more tactical in battle and has more linear and deep storyline with lots of main characters, lots of over the top scenes , and comedic moments, linear in style but have lots of secrets but that can lead into lots of grinding since you have no were else to go.

while WRPGs more fast paced combat, have more open world, a storyline that is heavily inspired by movies/books , less main characters (most of the time one mute) , no over the top scenes , hardly any comedic moments, very open in style but that sometimes lead into uninteresting and shallow moments.

at the end , if you are a real RPG fan you will enjoy both and you will know how different both are.

I disagree

Barring KOTOR no plot in a WRPG has ever touched me at all.

Oblivion & KOTOR 1/2 are the only WRPG's I have really enjoyed (KOTOR for its story, Oblivion for its open world & guilds)

I disliked Fallout 3 & Dragon Age Origins ended up as a cliched mess.....I felt it got worse as I played on.

JRPG's give me timeless stories, WRPG's just haven't done that.

In terms of more advanced......what is more advanced? A branching storyline and choices you make or fun & innovative battle systems.

I would say the latter and JRPG's have that!

Thing is JRPG battle systems aren't anymore innovative than WRPG battle systems. They both diverged years ago and have been evolving since. In fact the battle systems in WRPGs have more variety in terms of game mechanics and viewpoints than JRPGs. Otherwise we'd still be playing very slow ATB battles JRPGs and annoying dice rolls in WRPGs.

you know , i can't be one way about this, while i agree with you, i can't say that JRPGs are perfect , some are more cliche'd than modern FPS games and some WRPGs have timeless stories and exteremly well done soundtrack

so they're both great.

No.

JRPG > WRPG.

and you being the character kinda hurts the story, because in the end it ends up as a secondary thing. it one of reason JRPG are so loved, people feel engange with the story.

and their's chars like cloud/sephiroth that get popular, even some people thing cloud whine alot >_>,
