Thats IGN UK and how can a game get a 9,3 without a 9+ in any of the 5 categories?

it's called... being GTAIV-ized.

also known as.... early review bonus points.

Ahh yes, you've played the game then? Tell me, how was the ending? Was the co-op mode better than the campaign? Which Spec Ops mode did you like the most?

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

GTA IV didn't just get good reviews early, it got them across the board.

we were talking about early review from IGN particularly here

IGN's review is REALLY odd...

9.0 Presentation
Stylish menus and cool projection technology make for a unique experience. The story is an amalgamation of different seasons of 24, but it's nice to see Sam so angry.

8.5 Graphics
Nice animations. Gritty but good-looking environments. The framerate occasionally dips, but it's nothing major.

9.0 Sound
Michael Ironside does a great job reprising his role as Sam Fisher. The enemies have some nice quips. Solid musical score.

9.0 Gameplay
Stealth is fast and fun. Mark & Execute is a great addition. The AI is excellent if you play on Realistic difficulty.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
The single-player and co-op campaigns are short, but there's a lot of other things to do. And you'll probably want to play through everything more than once.

9.3
Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10)

9.3, with no single score over 9... Including an 8 and an 8.5? (The 8 being a biggie as it's lasting appeal)

Seems strange to me...

Oh, and it just turned into a rental.

Among other reasons posited already, one plausible reason could be that they simply thought the game was greater than the some of its parts. I can think of several games where that'd be true for me - Disgaea games come immediately to mind.

I'm unsure if it's anything to be overly suspicious about. It may be likely they've done it many times before.

Ooooooo shoot. And I had this preordered too, this may have to be back burnered for me until the price comes down to the $30-40 range. I'm a pretty single-player oriented guy, and as good as it is, 5 hours just ain't enough for a $60 purchase. Now where to put that money? Alan Wake is already prordered, and GT5, oooooooooo Halo Reach!?!?

IGN's reviews are always somewhat higher then the average or lower then the average their scoring system when it comes to the final score is just weird at least they should give a brief explanation of how they came up with the final score if it varies to much from the average. I guess the like to add or subtract hidden bonus points.

I'm sorry, did IGN just say "5 hours single Player campaign"?????

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I don't care how long the multiplayer are, I don't have gold membership, 5 hours single player means I'm out

Likewise. Conviction is now a rental.

Day 1 purchase for me, always has been. 5 hour SP campaign does not include the co-op prequel campaign that will add a few extra hours, and as a huge Splinter Cell fan I know I will get good replayability out of this...

it's amazing what happens when there's no more loading ^_~

-=Dew the disco dancing fo da Unco Graham=-

we should really think before criticising 5 hours here, most of our favorite shooters have 5 hour campaigns and with multiplayer we still love them, call of duties, halo, hell even god of war 1 was like a 5-6 hour game with no multiplayer and people still loved it, from the ign review the gameplay looks awesome so i hope not too many people are put off by that...

"even a dead god still dreams"

I don't really care if it's 5 or 50 hours, as long as it's good I might just get it. But thanks to DRM I'm not going to buy it, more or less rental.
